My husband and I will be visiting Nice in late August. Here are my questions:
(1) Any 3 star hotel recommendations that are within walking distance to take a bus or train station that would take us to other nearby cities? We would like to be able to walk to the beach area as well. (2) And what about taking a bus vs train to get to Monaco for the beautiful view getting there that is? (3) Does the train or a bus from Nice get one closer to Monte Carlo where every first-time visitor goes. Frankly, I'm more interested in visiting the Prince's Palace in Monaco. Thank you for any suggestions.
There are many hotels a few blocks from train station. And then maybe another 20 minute walk to beach. It’s good to be located near train station to pop up the live to Monaco, Menton, Cannes, and Antibes. All fairly close along a single line.
We stayed at the Hotel Aira, about a 5 minute walk from the train station with luggage. It is a small, boutique hotel that was clean and charmingly French, and rooms are less that 200 euros, even in the high season of August.. It was walkable to the train as well as the beach, and in a safe residential area. I would not recommend staying directly near the train station, as I thought it was a bit sketchy, and I would not feel comfortable walking there in the dark.
very helpful, many thanks.
We spent two weeks in Nice and did a lot of day trips. We used the bus that followed the pretty and scenic shoreline except for the trip to Antibes where we took the train. Easy.
good information. Do you recall how you paid for the bus ticket (only Euros?, only credit card?). When were were in Paris last year, it wasn't easy to pay in Euros--waiters, etc asked for credit card.
Forgot to ask you, since you were there for 2 weeks, did you have an option to purchase a pre-paid card that you could use for the bus and/or train?
