My niece and I are planning a two night trip to Marseilles in early July. The calanques are our ultimate goal. Any suggestions for a hotel? Nice but not fancy is what we're looking for. Thank you!
La Residence Du Vieux Port! Just stayed there 2 weeks ago - friendly staff; great breakfast (extra); clean & comfortable rooms with a view you'll never forget nor want to leave. All rooms have a port & hill view but splurge for the balcony!
You might want to stay in Cassis for more flexible hiking and boating options. Rick's Provence and Riviera guidebook is the one where he covers details for both destinations. The hotel listings have several variable trade-offs that warrant reading about (noise versus location, value, style, view, etc).
The best location is the MGallery Hotel Beauveau. I loved every second there. I know they've done some remodeling, so I am not sure of the current price. But it's worth looking into. The breakfast room had the most amazing view of the vieux port.
