Hotel Recommendations for Sarlat, Dordogne

Hello travelers,
Senior couple planning on a week in the Dordogne prior to joining Rick’s “Best of the Adriatic “ on June 5. We are planning on making Sarlat our base. We will have picked up a rental car in Bordeaux. We are looking for hotel recommendations, we like to be near town center but I’m concerned about parking. Thank you.

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay here in Sept 2018
On-site parking, sits above town center, walking distance but a steep climb home!
We never had a problem driving down to town 5 min or so and parking in small lot there.
Didn’t think we cared about the pool but happened to be there during a wicked heat wave so it was lovely and appreciated.

We stayed here on the RS Loire to the South of France Tour: https://hotelmontaigne.fr/en/
It was centrally located, clean, comfortable rooms & wonderful breakfast. We loved Sarlat!
The Saturday Market was a highlight of this charming town. Unfortunately I can’t comment about parking. We also took the RS Adriatic Tour. It was another favorite tour. Enjoy!

I stayed at a here, at a place now called the House if the Royal Notary:

I was there in 2008 but it sounds like the same owners, and they were great. The location is in the middle of town but they may have a parking space available, as long as the car isn’t too big and you don’t mind being patient for the pedestrians to move out if the way. (It’s very central- if you drive too far down the road you’ll end up going down stairs to the central plaza). I was there in October, and over 10 years ago, so not sure how traffic will be, but I loved this location. Other than maneuvering into the parking space, it was easy getting in and out of town.

Hotel LaCouleuvrine was my RS tour hotel in 2010. Nice hotel.

We stayed in Sarlat in October of 2021. We tried to stay at Plaza Madeline (to avoid parking issues - they have reserved parking nearby for 15 euros per night) but they were full. We ended up staying at La Lanterne, a 4 room bed and breakfast. We were able to find parking spaces nearby, although after parking on Friday afternoon, we did not move the car until after the Saturday market had ended. We dropped our rental car in Sarlat and took the train to Bordeaux - avoiding traffic and parking fees in Bordeaux

Another vote for the Hotel Montaigne in Sarlat. Great location. We didn’t have a car so can’t comment on parking. Suggest you email the hotel with your question. We loved the town and the market day!
