My 70ish sister and I are planning a trip to Paris this spring. Dates are flexible. We are hoping for a hotel in the $300/night range with an elevator/air conditioning. We prefer to be close to attractions and a Metro that doesn't require multiple changes to reach those not within walking distance. There seem to be so many options that it is somewhat daunting. Would you recommend staying in the 6th, or 1st (or where?) and any hotel recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Paris has so many hotels that choosing one can be overwhelming. I am assuming that you mean $300 per night for one room for two people. If you mean $300 per night for two rooms, I've got nothing to suggest. if you mean one room and you are traveling in Marclh or April, I suggest Hotel Odeon Saint Germain in the 6th arrondissement. I thought that I had some other suggestions but I did a quick look at their prices for this spring and wow, prices are high this year. Good luck
Not sure if the rates for the time you will be there will fit your budget, but Ile St. Louis is about as central and as convenient a location as can be had. It's right behind Notra Dame, a metro stop is close by, and there are several places to eat on the main street.
There are several hotels on the island. We've stayed at Hotel des Deux-Iles and were very pleased. They also have a sister hotel on the island.
If you stay on the island, we can tell you about a great little place for breakfast for not too much money, as well as several other places to eat.
Have stayed here and liked it. On lovely pedestrian street Rue Cler, a short walk from Eiffel Tower, and only a couple of blocks from a centrally located metro station.

I'm 75 and like to stay in the area of the 7th that gregabell mentions. I don't stay at that hotel but enjoy either Hotel Muguet on Rue Chevert or Hotel Relais Bosquet on Rue du Champ de Mars. both have elevators and AC.
For your budget, both probably fit and you'd want to think in Euro, but is it 300E for a twin (2-beds) room or 300E for each of you to have your own room?
It is not as well connected as some areas as there is only one Metro line (line 8) so sometimes you have to change.
It's an easy walking distance to the Eiffel Tower (10 minutes) and Napoleon's Tomb/Army Museum/Rodin Museum. It takes me a little under half an hour to walk to the Musee d'Orsay.
Some on the forum pooh-pooh this neighborhood. I enjoy it immensely after first staying there on a Rick Steves tour. I like that in the AMs I can watch Moms and Dads walking their kids to school and in the afternoon the middle schoolers descend on the ice cream shop. I like that there are dozens of restaurants I can go to, have a couple of glasses of wine for dinner and get myself home, lol.
Thank you all, I will check these out. Just to clarify, I did mean $300 per night for one room with two beds - should have said Euros!
Well, the two currencies are virtually at parity these days, so for once, it doesn't really matter whether you say euros or dollars !
I am in my 70s and go to Paris several times a year. I like to stay in the 6th because it is upscale and central.
We are staying at Hotel Caron Le Marais in the 4th (the “old” Paris feel of a neighborhood). Main metro is nearby, like one block I believe. I enjoyed this article. We are 65.
