Hotel recommendations for Chamonix

I looked in the archive and found 2 recs for Ousterd(Sp?) from a couple years ago but will look at it.

Any other recommendations? We will be there mid April…realize some might be closed. Clean, preferably central.
Many thanks!

I decided not to stay in Chamonix (picked zermatt instead), but when I was doing research, I made a note of hôtel de l'arve. I want to say that this is one of the hotels the RS tour stays, or it could just be some forum members mentioned it and I added it to my notes. I liked that it was near the river and within walking distance to the train station.

Like you said, you might be limited due to it being off season. I would check booking.com. It looks like hôtel de l'arve is open in April.

Good luck!!

We stayed at Hotel L'Arve for 2 nights in early June while on the RS Eastern France tour. It was one of my favorite hotels on the tour. It is a typical RS hotel - nothing fancy and a little worn around the edges, clean, very friendly people at the reception desk / small bar, small comfortable outside green space with some cafe tables and couches right along the river, nice breakfast room also along the river. I liked the glass water bottles you could fill and take to your room. I believe there were a few goodies out in the late afternoon. We could walk to anywhere in town. There is a really nice walk along the river which goes all the way to the next town including passing by the field where the hang gliders land. The people at reception speak English and are very willing to help with activities and restaurants.

If not too late, check out Hotel La Vallée Blanche, right on the river (I mean RIGHT on it, the river flowed within feet of our room window). Central, but on the "quiet" side of the river (the Mont Blanc side). Great views. I really enjoyed it there.
