The train to Barcelona leaves from Gare de Lyon, so I would aim to stay not too far from there, either near the station itself or near Bastille (10 min walk away - EDIT, that was optimistic, more like 15-20 actually!).
If you want something cheap but dependable, the Ibis Gare de Lyon is, reportedly, quite good value.
In general, there are so many hotels in Paris that you really need to choose a neighborhood and set a budget to narrow down your search.

Balso’s comment reminds me that people in Paris walk so much faster than I do. Since 2018, I have stayed near Place de la Bastille and have never been able to walk to Gare de Lyon in 10 minutes. It’s more like 20 minutes for me especially with a roller bag. I’ve stayed at the Novotel Gare de Lyon and liked it and same for the Ibis properties nearby. A friend quite liked the Holiday Inn Gare de Lyon but another person I know hated it because there is (maybe it’s was by now) a sex shop nearby. As Balso said, there are many hotels in Paris so a budget would help narrow down suggestions. Also are you planning to do anything in Paris or just looking for a place to crash for a few hours before getting on the train? If it’s just a place to crash by all means stay near Gare de Lyon but if you will have time to walk around, I would have other suggestions based on the budget.

I’ve stayed in Hotel Palym several times - it’s on a small side street right across the street from Gare de Lyon (4 Rue Emile Gilbert).

Thank you. We will be in Paris for a week before heading to southern France for a week and then overnight in Paris one night before taking the train to Barcelona.
We are not looking for extremely luxurious; convenience, safety and perhaps charming are most important for our last magical night in Paris.

The Ibis Paris Gare de Lyon Diderot is a five-to-six block walk from the Lyon entrance. The Holiday Inn Gare de Lyon is nearer and more costly. I depend on the Ibis chain to provide plain accommodation, efficiently run, at a fair price. Google Maps can show you other hotels around the station.
