Hotel recommendation in the Saint Germain des Pres, Paris 3 adults

Myself, husband, and adult daughter will be in Paris for 8 nights early September 2026. We have never been to France and I was thinking the Saint Germain de Pres or Latin Quarter would be a good area for a base. I would prefer not to spend more than $500 per night and do not want a sleeper sofa as a bed option. Is this unreasonable? Would love some suggestions. Thank you.

I stayed at the Hotel Left Bank on Rue de l'Ancienne Comédie in Saint Germain with my two teen/tween grandkids when I was there in April of last year. I loved the location, and the hotel was very nice with a vintage vibe to it. There is a small lift and the hotel has A/C. Our room was a triple, very clean, with two single beds placed side by side (you can put them together to make a double), and another single (not a sofa bed) in a more secluded area of the room. This was nice as it gave my grandson (who slept in the single) a bit of privacy. The room was spacious and very clean, and there were coffee and tea-making supplies, along with a kettle.

The breakfast was an additional cost, but when I booked the hotel, they were offering it at a discount for €5 pp, so we got breakfast both mornings, and it was quite good. There were not only breads and pastries, but creamy scrambled eggs, crisp sausage links, fruit, cereal, yogurt, and tomatoes and cucumbers.

The location was outstanding. It was a block from the Odeon Metro stop, about a 10 minute walk to Pont Neuf and Notre Dame, and it was very convenient to sights, cafes, boulangeries, pastry shops and much more. We only had to walk out the front door to find food and drink options everywhere. Our cost was around €320 per night for a triple room in April of 2025.

Have you already searched and found everything is out of your $500 per night price range? If so, you may be visiting when a popular event is underway and prices go way up (e.g. fashion week, conventions). You might consider an aparthotel, there are several options (search the forum for ideas) or look at a search engine like Booking.com that allow you to refine your criteria and location. You don't need to use the site to book, but it is helpful for research as only people who have stayed at the property can leave a review. I picked random dates in early September and there are dozens of options under your price range. I recently stayed in the Latin Quarter and thought it was a great location.

Are you looking for a triple? Or two rooms - 1 single and 1 double?

Hôtel Le Clément, just off Blvd Saint-Germain, has a unique triple room that they call a “junior suite.” Two cute, snug rooms with a tight bathroom in the larger room. The smaller room has a “junior” sized twin bed - it appeared to be as wide as an American twin but it was a bit shorter. The bed was comfortable and fine for a woman under 5’4” but may not be a good fit for someone much taller. The larger room has a double bed. The hotel has A/C, a great breakfast and a convenient location for the metro, buses and tons of restaurants.

Traveling in early September, I’d make finding a hotel with air conditioning a priority. We stayed there in the early spring so I can’t vouch for the efficacy of the A/C, but reviews on TripAdvisor say it’s good.

Thank you for the suggestions. My search up til now has not been exhaustive but what I’m typically finding are rooms that say they sleep three people but then the type of beds are not acceptable. A double bed for my husband who is 6’2”” and myself would not be big enough and a junior twin would not be comfortable for my adult daughter, 5’6”. The hotels sound great but the bedding options do not. I’ve been looking at apartments but most don’t have air conditioning. Thanks again. I remain open to checking out all suggestions.

In the Latin Quarter, consider Familia Hotel, about a 10 minute walk to Notre Dame and good Metro/bus nearby. It's not fancy, but is well reviewed and has air conditioning. If available, you could book a superior room and a single room for about €400/night.

Or next door, it's sister property, the Hotel Minerve. Prices are a bit higher to reflect additional amenities.

Be careful when comparing beds sizes. They can differ from hotel to hotel.

  • US Full size/double 137cm x 191 cm
  • US queen 152cm x 203cm
  • French double at Hotel Minerve 150 cm x 200 cm

I stayed at the Citadines St. Germain de Pres in 2022. The location was perfect, a lot of things were in walking distance. They also have kitchenettes, which was a big plus for me.
