Going to be in Paris the end of September for 2 days. Looking to stay in the Latin Quarter but can really stay anywhere. Never been to Paris so want to stay somewhere close to all of the sites and a subway. Our budget is no more than $250 Euros a night. We like modern hotels so nothing quaint which I know is hard to find in Paris. Been looking and there are so many hotels my brain hurts. Thought I would see what you all thought.
There no place that is close all the sites. That being said, the Latin Quarter is an excellent choice for a first visit as are Saint Germain and Le Marais. Metro and RER stops are all over Paris so being near one when staying in central Paris is a given. I have not checked the prices since they renovated but you may want to look at http://m.excelsior-paris-hotel.com/en/. Other suggestions are https://www.paris-hotel-des-nations-st-germain.com/en/, https://hotelpetitparis.com/en/ (this one is could be in budget but I am not sure), and https://www.balcons.com/en/. There are tons of modern hotels in Paris. I too do not like quaint and I like the hotels I mentioned but my idea of quaint, for example, Hotel Caron Beaumarchais and Hotel de Nesle, may not be the same as yours. If you want total “this hotel room could be anywhere in the world” then take a look at the Novotel hotel chain. The Astotel hotel chain has mostly modern but charming properties but none are in the areas I mentioned above. If you look at the chain and are interested, the best located one, IMO, is Hotel Malte.
I am usually reticent about recommending hotels because peoples expectations vary so much for the same words. That being said, we have stayed at the Hotel Home Latin on our last five trips. Check it out at Booking.com. The rooms are comfortable, it is on a side street so it is quiet, the breakfast is good and the price is reasonable as Paris goes. On 70+ year old legs we have found it to be convenient walking distance to the Metro/RER, Notre Dame, Luxembourg Gardens, the Pantheon, Ile Saint Louis, etc., etc.
Have a good trip.
Last September, we stayed at Hôtel Michelet Odeon and were happy with it. It was a few blocks from Luxembourg Gardens and Panthéon. It was a small room, but clean and convenient for walking to most sites.
