Can anyone recommend a hotel in Montmarte? A friend and I will be in Paris in early September and I'm thinking we might enjoy that area. Thanks in advance!
I've often stayed at the Timhotel Montmartre. Nice hotel. Good location. The square can be noisy.
I love Montmartre. But, note, it takes a bit of time to get into the central part of Paris.
My top choice in Montmartre is the Hotel Terrass on Rue Joseph de Maistre. We stayed in rooms with great panoramic views over Paris and very nice free standing egg-shaped bathtubs. Second choice is Le Relais Montmartre on Rue Constance.
We stayed at Hotel des Arts and it was a lovely hotel. However, I would not stay in Montmartre again. It's a bit far from the rest of Paris and the other things I enjoy doing there (gardens, museums, restaurants, sightseeing.)
I agree about not staying in Montmartre if it’s your first visit. We did that last fall and it’s such a hassle to get to the center of town. Back and forth, back and forth. We’re going next year and staying in Le Marais. This time I want to walk out my hotel and BE there. Walking distance to big attractions and smaller areas. I’d strongly advise you to do the same.
We went with our friends who were there 10 years ago and stayed in the St. Germaine area. This time they wanted to do something different, and didn’t visit Montmartre the first time, and picked there. She immediately said it was a mistake.
It’s beautiful up there and we will take out adult children to visit, but stay close to the action this time.
In April, we stayed in the St Germain neighborhood and took a taxi from our hotel to Montmarte/Sacre Coeur for a visit. Couldn't believe how far away it felt from the center of Paris. Charming neighborhood to explore, but wouldn't want to stay there, plus it's so hilly.
