Hotel Neighborhoods and Metro Stations

Hi: My husband and I will be arriving in Paris from Amsterdam in June, 2022- I think we will be taking a train to Paris. I have found two hotels that I'm considering and would like to know what the neighborhood vibe is like and if their locations are good for traveling through out Paris on Metro.

The first hotel is Novotel Les Halles 1st Arr., and the other is Hotel Dress Code in 9th Arr..
We plan to visit Musee d'Orsay, Le Marais, and do some shopping in small boutiques (trying to avoid the high end stores and would prefer to shop like the locals), and eating at some great restaurants.

Any insight you can give me would be appreciated. Sandy

We just came back from a trip to Paris and stayed a block up the street from the Hotel Dress Code. Caumartin is a small side street just off of a very busy area. With a variety of restaurants, a good-sized Carrefour market, a nice bakery and great transit connections, we found the neighborhood/street to be just right for our needs. It’s also very close to les Grands Magasins (Galerie Lafayette and Printemps), which are both lovely to wander through. I especially enjoy the roof top terrace at Galerie Lafayette with terrific (free) views of the city. The cafeteria on the top floor has fabulous views as well and a decent roast chicken platter.

I can’t speak to the Novotel as I’ve not stayed in that exact neighborhood before.

I can't judge the hotels you mention, but if you like calm in the evening and at night and prefer a Parisian Baron Haussman-style atmosphere to an environment of concrete and glass, choose the Dress Code hotel without hesitation.
It is located in a quiet and safe neighborhood and as JenS told you, close to interesting places.

The Sofitel Les Halles is located in a modern and pedestrian area extremely busy until very late at night, right next to a very large mall center in the basement levels (le Forum des Halles) and surrounded by all the fast food chains that may exist in Europe.

At the Dress code hotel you will be right between the Opéra and Madeleine metro stations, from which you can reach all the interesting places in Paris

The Metro-RER Chatelet-Les Halles station is one of the largest and busiest in Paris. You risk getting lost! :)
