We have 3 days in Paris before joining a Rick Steves Eastern France tour in late April. I’ve been to Paris several times but it’s been over ten years so I feel like I’m starting afresh. In the past we’ve stayed near the Louvre, Eiffel Tower and Rick Steves recommended Rue Cler. I’d like to try something new but still central, maybe the Marais? This trip will be low key with lots of walking and wandering. Several hotels in the Rick Steve’s France guide that still have availability on our dates are Hôtel Bastille Spéria, Hôtel Castex, Hôtel de Nice, D’Win Hôtel and also looking at Hôtel Saint-Louis. Any experience with these hotels? Any other recommendations?
I stayed at the Marriott Moxy for a week. It is ideally located. The Sunday and Thursday Bastille Marche is a block away. 2 metro Stops within 2 blocks can get you on any metro line fast and easily. Room rates are very reasonable. Excellent free coffee from Espresso machines available all day.
Hello
I stayed 3 nights at Hotel de Nice about 3 years ago.
In general, everything that Rick says is correct. the lobby is above the street level. It's a bit frumpy but clean. Breakfast is simple, baguettes and croissants (much carbo-loading).
only negative was it is on a busy street, Rue de Rivoli, plus late night outside noise from people talking in the back alleys (someone romantically said it was restaurant staff enjoying a bottle of wine after hours - maybe).
the area is great, with an easy walk to the Pompidou Center, Picasso Museum, Victor Hugo Residence, The Seine, etc.
Convenient bus lines are right out front.
I particularly enjoyed the adjacent restaurants. Be sure to go to Au Petit Fer a Cheval, for a true French dining experience. Also, there is a fun 50's style diner on the corner downhill from Cheval.
in summary, much like Rue Cler, you can make Marais home during your stay.
I've stayed at Hotel St. Louis en L'ile many times and really enjoy staying on the island.
You are so close to the Marais and also close to the Left Bank, so all in all it is in a great spot.
There are also many restaurants on the island, and it is lovely once all the day trippers leave for the day.
Personally I prefer staying there than in the Marais itself.
