Hotel in Paris for Single Woman

I will be stopping in Paris for several nights and traveling as a single woman. I am interested in finding a comfortable hotel in either the Latin Quarter or ile Saint Lewis. Someone suggested the Hotel des Deux-iles. Any opinions or suggestions would be welcome.

I think those are good locations for a woman in Paris alone. Do you have a price range or what is "comfortable"?

I am looking for something possibly in the $160-$200 per night range.

I would also add the Hotel de Lutece which is a sister hotel to the Hotel des Deux-iles on the Ile St. Louis. A wonderful location and hotel, small with 20 something rooms. Very helpful staff. I stayed there last April with a friend but I mention it because I would stay there solo in a heartbeat. The room rate isn't exactly the cheapest you might find in Paris but I thought it was worth it for the safety, convenience of the location and proximity to restaurants and the Metro. The hotel feels quintessentially French too.

I stayed at Hotel Eugenie in 2017 and thought it was a good choice. It was clean, well located, and very reasonably priced.

We enjoyed staying at the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles in the Latin Quarter.

Just like in NYC, no one in Paris cares that you are a single woman traveler. Parisian women walk around alone all the time. Although European cities are mostly safer than American cities, the main issue you may be alluding to could be lonely late-night walks from distant, obscure Metro stations. As you select hotels from a hotel shopping site, you can use their "map view" or Google Maps separately to make sure they are in a reasonably bustling area. Unless you are trying to get a rock-bottom hotel price (and there are indeed plenty of busy-midtown/downtown rock-bottom rooms in 3-stars still around) you don't have to worry very much.

When I'm by myself in Paris, I stay in the Latin Quarter at a little place just east of Luxembourg Gardens. It's named Hotel Jardin du Luxembourg. If you're coming from CDG it's a 3 minute walk from the RER B stop Luxembourg. It's a very small place on a dead-end street with a friendly front desk, little balconies, and a good breakfast. It will easily be within your budget. Walk around the corner to Luxembourg Gardens, hop on the metro around the corner to go anywhere in the city. Walk to the Pantheon, St. Sulpice, and the Cluny. The Seine and many of the museums are within a 15 minute walk. Great location and secure for traveling alone.

We've stayed at Hotel des Deux-iles and loved it. Can't beat the location. If you stay there or at their other hotel (Hotel de Lutece) we can recommend several restaurants really close by.

I have booked the Hotel des Deux-iles for my stay in Paris. Any restaurant recommendations in that area?

Hôtel le Clos Médicis -- I stayed there on my own for most of the time I was in Paris in November. It's in the 6th but within steps of the 5th which is the Latin Quarter. It's a block from Luxembourg Gardens and is a 3 minute walk from the Luxembourg RER B station so it's a breeze to get to/from CDG. If you're on your own, this is a great boutique hotel.

Joan,

For restaurants close to the hotel, leave the hotel, turn left and start walking. St. Regis is on the opposite side of the street, on a corner, just before the bridge. They have a very good, light, breakfast special -- coffee, juice, and croissant for very little money. Much better, in my opinion, than most of the hotel breakfasts. We had a light meal late one night while returning to the hotel. Various meats, breads, and that sort of thing. Will definitely go there again. Across the intersection is another place but I can't remember the name. Food is okay, but not really special. On the same street as the hotel is Café Med which is good for lunch. Farther down the street going away from Notre Dame (turn right when leaving the hotel) is L'Orangerie & Auberge de la Reine Blanche. It has great food and is good for a semi fancy dinner. Reservations are a good idea. On the other side of the street from there is the ice cream place (whose name escapes me) that is well know for it's chocolate ice cream. You should be able to use google maps street view feature to "walk" the entire street to locate them before leaving home.

TC mentions Café Med for lunch, we love it for lunch or dinner. Very inexpensive, charming, good service and good food.
We also love Café La Flore en l’Ile right by the bridge. Good food, expensive, great for sitting outside.
Enzo (Italian) is across from St Regis and is good.
Other than Café Med, Café St Regis, Enzo and La Flore on l’Ile, there are no other places on ISL that we like.

I think TC is refering to Berthillon ice cream. All flavors are amazing. Raspberry is my favorite. ISL also has one of many Amarino shops (Italian gelato), also fantastic.
