Hi, there are 3 couples that are flying in early AM in May 2016 and will be flying out the next afternoon after 1 night in Paris. Our plan is to see Versailles the day we fly in and then view the Eiffel Tower and other major landmarks that night and the next day before we fly out. So my question is where would be a good location to get a nice budget friendly but clean hotel for the night? We will be flying into CDG. Estimated budget would be US$150/night... None of us have been to Paris and this is just a stopover on our trip but wanted to make the most of it. Also would hotel let us drop our luggage there early or should I look at potentially booking a single room for the night prior to our arrival and we all can stow our luggage in the room and freshen up before going to Versailles.? Thanks 😊
Hotels will generally let you drop off luggage early, or leave it after checkout for pickup later. I'd suggest a hotel near the Place St-Michel, where the RER "B" and "C" lines intersect. The "B" will bring you from CDG airport, and back the next day. The "C" will take you to Versailles and bring you back. St-Michel is also a major Metro station, and central to a lot of sights, especially Notre Dame (but not to the Eiffel Tower). See Paris by Train for much info about the RER and Metro.
The Rick Steves and other good guidebooks recommend various hotels in that area and elsewhere, but your budget is low for Paris. Other posters will have good suggestions I'm sure. Your visit will be rushed, but I hope you won't feel compelled to see "everything" in your short time frame. Just get a feel for the city and think about what you'll do when you return some day for a week or longer!
