We are going to Rome and the French Riviera on our honeymoon and I do not have a clue where to begin on the search for a hotel in Nice. Does anyone have any suggestions on places to stay that the price is not astronomical?

My first suggestion would be to purchase the most recent Rick Steves Provence guidebook! You can buy it through this site at the Travel Store or at many book stores. In 2008 we loved the Hotel Mercure Marché aux Fleurs http://www.mercure.com/gb/hotel-0962-mercure-nice-marche-aux-fleurs-hotel/room.shtml which we found through Rick's book. Hope this helps!

Congratulations!
You might have a look at Hotel Suisse. It's a great location within easy walking distance to the old town, and some of the rooms have a fantastic view along the Promenade des Anglais.
