Hotel in Montmartre?

We're booked on the Paris and Heart of France tour next May, and are planning to arrive three or so days early. The tour hotel, B-Montmartre, looks great, but I wouldn't mind finding something a little less expensive. The rate they offer is €207 per night, although it looks like it averages out a little cheaper through their website.

I'd like to find something for about €150 or less. I'm interested in staying in Montmartre, because it's a new neighborhood for us. We've always stayed near Rue Cler before.

Our needs are simple: we don't care whether or not the hotel has an elevator or air conditioning, but would like a clean, quiet room. We appreciate a good breakfast, and being near a bus or Metro stop.

I'm going to check out another hotel in the Rue Cler area, so I'm not ruling out staying in that district. I'd just like to expand our horizons a bit.

Thanks for your help.

Paris has lots of small inexpensive hotels that don't advertise or seem to come up in search engines. I'd pick an area of Montmartre and then look for what hotels show in the map on that area and then investigate those. When you choose a couple, read the reviews and come back here. Or look at trip adverser hotel listing reviews to narrow it down.

I took this tour in June and the B Montmarte was our first tour hotel as well. The location was excellent with close proximity to 2 metro lines and bus 30. The rooms were nice and Rick Steves tour members have breakfast included in their room rate when they arrive before tour. The staff are friendly and the service good. Many shops and cafes nearby.

i enjoyed the convenience of staying at the tour hotel in advance. You check in once, can settle in and become acquainted with the neighborhood. You will be moving hotels often enough once the tour leaves Paris. Consider staying at the tour hotel. There is an added value that compensates for any added cost.

I know you will enjoy this tour!

PS Did you price the Rick Steves Tour Rate with the hotel?

If you're okay with chains, the Ibis Montmarte is budget-friendly and an easy walk from the Place de Clichy and Blanche metro stations. We also had a good stay in the Holiday Inn Montmarte, which is a little further out from a metro stop and tucked away in a residential area to the north of the cemetery. Tons of restaurants and shops nearby.

Place de Clichy is the same metro stop that you will use for the B-Montmartre. The Ibis would have you in the same general neighborhood.

Thanks, all. I'll follow up on your tips.

Carol, I did say we were on the RS tour. The price quoted was €207, which includes breakfast for RS tour members. On the hotel's website, with promotion code "RICK," the price is €168 the first night, a weekend, and €222 the other nights. That works out to average 204.

I do appreciate the luxury of not having to change hotels, and may decide to opt for the tour hotel, especially if we only come two nights early, rather than three.

My main concern was the letter said the €207 was a non-refundable rate. That won't do. I have elderly parents, and as John Lennon famously said, life is what happens while you're busy making other plans.

I think I'll check back with the hotel and see about the "non-refundable" aspect. They do ask for a credit card number to hold the reservation - that's to be expected. I'll check and see if the reservation can be canceled without penalty.

Jane, do you have trip cancellation insurance.? I have good coverage through my credit card should I have to cancel. I do understand, however, and usually don't book nonrefundable either for the same reason. I'm very excited for you to do this tour because I know just how fun it is.
