I’m unexpectedly flying out to the US through Marseille, and would appreciate advice on a hotel for May 14 and 15.
I’ll have one full day in Marseilles and 2 partial days. My train arrives 11 am on May 14; my flight leaves Marseille airport at 3:30 pm on May 16.
Better to stay at the airport and bus to the city for touring? Or in town?
I didn’t plan for this part of the trip, so I don’t have Rick’s book to consult.
Thanks for your suggestions!
Stay near the vieux port. The airport really isn't that far from the city. And all the charm will be in the city.
My suggestions are :
Best: Grand Hôtel Beauvau by MGallery
Comfortable: Oceania Escale
Trendy: Hôtel Maisons du Monde
I second the recommendation to stay near the Vieux Port and I will add Carré Vieux Port to the hotel suggestions. For a flight at 3:30 PM you can leave the Vieux Port area around 12:30 (Schengen flight)/12 (non-Schengen) if using public transportation and 30 min later if going by taxi.
Thank you for your helpful replies. I am at the Ibis Euromed, not far west of the Vieux area, adjacent to The Docks Village. A comfortable place, not fancy but well priced, very clean, and the staff are friendly. Breakfast starts at 6:30 am — nice for early risers like me.
It's a good location, easy to get to St Charles for the airport bus, and also a very fast Uber or taxi ride to the airport if you choose that instead, without breaking the bank since it's already a little bit towards the airport.
Bon voyage!
