We (two couples) are training from Paris to join a private tour starting in Auxerre in early October. We will spend one night in Auxerre. Does anyone have a recommendation for a hotel that is conveniently located to the central historic part of Auxerre?

We stayed at Hotel Maxime right below the Cathedral. We had a one night stop on our way to Paris with a car full of stuff and wanted secure parking since I had my arm in a cast from surgery in Menton. They had covered secure parking that let us leave stuff in the trunk overnight safely and they were also super helpful when we arrived making sure our luggage was carried to the room etc (accommodating my injury). We had been to Auxerre before but still wanted to be able to enjoy the historic center and have dinner. It was an easy stroll. Nice room. Good breakfast. We'd choose it again.

I can vouch for the Normandy. It's on the ring road so not as central as the Maxime, but the historic center is not far.
I had a very pleasant dinner at the Maxime, assuming the restaurant was affiliated with the hotel.
