hotel help paris - mainly in marais district

looking for help in making a decision….focus of research has been in marais district
- looking at hotel caron de beaumarchais and hotel beaubourg OR
- looking at hotel de lutece (Ile St.Louis) OR
- looking at hotel fabric (around corner of oberkampf) concerned that this may be too far though

  • we would like to walk to attractions as much as possible
  • we would like a safe and lively neighbourhood

  • any advice on any of these choices would be helpful or suggestions of other hotels comparable to these

  • we would like to keep the price under 180E per night for a stay in Aug.

Thanks for the help!

Do they all have your dates available? That's one way to narrow the field. If price is similar to the others, then I think staying on the Ile St. Louis would be lovely, central, and my first choice.

We've stayed at Hotel Jeanne D'arc twice. Loved it. Close to metro, restaurants, shops.

You just can't beat the location of the Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais. Plus it is quaint. I had friends stay there once but didn't go up myself.
I visited the Hotel Fabric a couple of weeks ago and think it is gorgeous. If I were a foodie coming to Paris, that's where I'd stay.

It depends if it's a first visit to Paris or a fifth, I think. For a first-time visit and to be right on the line 1, I'd pick Caron de Beaumarchais. Susan will chime in for the Lutece, and I'm sure that staying on the Ile St Louis is really fun too!

Thanks for the help.

We have booked 3 nights at Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais (Marais). We are really looking forward to our 1st trip to Paris!

If anyone has any suggestions for quaint places to eat (breakfast and dinner), nearby the hotel OR maybe in other districts (lunch or dinner) I'd be open to suggestions. Reasonable prices, great food, quaint, romantic, and not touristy would be ideal! Price range...I'm not sure what to say….we will probably have a splurge night and 2 reasonable nights for dinner.

Other areas we will probably be visiting or near will probably be: Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Latin Quarter, Ile St. Louis. Also possibly Luxembourg Gardens or Montmarte (not sure).

Thanks again!

Congratulations on your choice, I think you'll be very happy there!

Claudia has made excellent suggestions, let me add thepariskitchen.com to the list.

Do keep in mind that with an August visit, you'll be facing at least some closed restaurants for various dates. They probably won't yet have their dates advertised as to when they'll be closed, but keep an eye on the websites of the places you're interested in as we get to June and July.

Additionally, ParisByMouth usually does some version of a post about "where in the heck do I eat in August when all the restaurants are closed", you might look at one from last year to give you an idea. don't worry, it will never be that absolutely EVERYbody is closed, you'll find good options. This is where planning ahead will pay off!!!
