Hotel Help in August - please advise

Hello - i am coming to Paris with my mum in August for 4 nights - first time for both of us. We will be doing touristy things + getting some great meals. From my research - i think we should stay in Saint Germain. My initial research led me to 1st/ 2nd arro - but think that might be too touristy - but i am happy to know if we should stay thr instead.

I was looking for something in the 225/300$ per night range - thr seem to be a ton of smaller hotels in various categories in that range. Woudl prefer as much "luxury" as possible.

Kinda short listed to
1) Hotel Pas de calais - looks nice (basic rooms are pretty small) but still looks more lux that some of the other places i see?

2) Miiro Le Grand - also similar location - not sure which is better between 1 and 2

3)  La Maison Favart - 2nd arro - is this area better as tourists?

Tough to narrow down coz thr are just so many hotels in the area in this context. I also looked at Marais -but thought maybe between Saint Germain and Marais - Saint Germain would be better? happy to switch or look at something totaly diff hotel wise- would love some guidance, a bit lost in this search

We love the area where the 6th and 7th meet. We stayed at Maison Chomel. You could also look at Hotel des Marrionniers, as suggested on this forum.

As a first timer to Paris, Saint Germain (6th arr) IMO is the best location. It is central, beautiful and is really what comes to mind when I think of Paris.

Of the hotels you mentioned, the first definitely has the best location. Your primary goal should be walkability to the places you want to visit or at least ease of transit access, specifically the metro (Google Map shows metro location with M letter in a cirle). Look to maybe find a hotel a bit right of that if possible but it is still an ideal location.

I would avoid the 1st as it is a bit soulless to me. The Marrais is super popular and is considered very trendy but overrated IMO. Ultimately they are all touristy.

You will probably want to visit the Louvre, Notre Dame and Saint Chappelle and walk the Seine and the first hotel is best for that. You can also look at the 5th but definitely less luxury.

Since Hotel des Marrionniers has been recommended, I feel obligated to chime in. The location of the hotel is perfect, as good as it gets in Paris IMO, especially in the 6th arrondissement. So maybe look at something close to it. It is also a basic hotel, especially compared to your options. I did like the yard for hanging out in the evenings.

I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and had a nice pair of wireless headphones stolen. They do provide you a safe so as long as you are diligent with your valuables, you don't need to worry I guess. I was not and forgot the headphones laying around and paid for it.

It was not the cleaning service as I had left them out on a separate occasion and there was no issue. The cleaning lady was super polite as well so I am certain that was not it.

The day my headphones were stolen, I noticed a new TV had been installed on the wall in the room and my guess is the service person was the culprit. This means this hotel lets third party workers into your room without supervision or at least without proper supervision. The worst part was the hotel did nothing about it when I told them. I would avoid it.

You have chosen a good neighborhood though I do not think that the 2nd arrondissement is more touristy than Saint Germain. Of the hotels you list, I would chose Hotel Pas de Calais. Its location is quite good, right on the street that forms the western border of the Saint Germain quartier. I enjoyed my stay years ago at Hotel da Vinci on the same street. There are so many hotels in Paris that it can be overwhelming so I hate to suggest others given that I think Hotel Pas de Calais is a good choice, but if you want to consider the second arrondissement, take a look at Hotel Malte and Hotel Bachaumont.

thanks very much - this is all so helpful. i thikn Hotel Pas de Calais wins. i really liked Da vinci as well - buts its a bit more expensive.

one last one - what about Hôtel La Lanterne & Spa By Timhotel? i see its in saint germain but on the other side by the pantheon. which location is better between the Pas de Calais and Lanterna pls?

Hotel Pas de Calais is a better location both for getting to the main spots as well as the neighborhood.

Paris hotel prices have either gone down quite a bit this year or you have a knack for finding good hotels at good prices. They were so much more expensive last time I checked.

Prices could be down coz its august?

If you think Lanterna location is not as great - then i think i am kind of stuck between Da Vinci and Pas De Calais now. :(

You may be right. Wife refuses to travel Jul-Aug to Europe due to crowds, so we mainly only do May or Sept. Am shocked to find out Sept is so more expensive.

Da Vinci is a 5 minute walk to Calais so the difference in location based on access is almost immaterial. It comes down to how particular you are. Da Vinci is closer to the seine but I prefer Calais because it is a bit closer to the more lively part of the 6th which I prefer. It is also a bit closer to Luxembourg garden which is my favourite outdoor spot in Paris that I visit everytime. You should have it as part of your itinerary. Some nice spots for coffee or dinners as well.

Personally, I would go with the Hotel De Buci location or something close to it but on a quieter street. However, it is the busiest part of the 6th or as busy as any other spot. Use Google Maps to familiarize yourself with the neighborhood.

IMO best location is Millesime Hôtel Paris but is a bit more expensive. For me Paris hotels are really purely about location as I never spend anytime other than sleeping in them. I would not pay that but you may like it.

Indeed, September is the single most expensive month in Paris for hotels.

For your August visit, be sure to pick a place with a/c.

Sept. is expensive in Paris because it is full with conventions and with all the fashion activities.
