Hotel Covid Vouchers--Final Update

Can anyone update me regarding French law pertaining to canceled hotel stays? The hotel sent me an email stating that they would allow me to reschedule my reservation for up to 18 months. I would like to move the reservation to 24 months. Due to the time difference, I only asked for a discount. They say no. My understanding was that if the consumer could not reschedule within 18 months that a refund was due. Please correct or confirm my understanding.

TIA

Tocard,

Thank you for your response.

I wish they were more willing to work with me regarding a discounted room in September 2022. Instead, they are only offering me a stay until May, 2022. I don't really want to ask them for a refund as I would be happy to support their business. Maybe they are hoping I will forget and not ask for a refund in May?

You have a voucher for the room, what is there to discount?
Are you telling them that you will not use the voucher- they can keep that money and that you will pay for the nw reservation, but at a reduced rate?

bob,
The voucher is not a real piece of paper. It is a virtual voucher, or an email stating that I am due a future stay. The hotel is saying that the "voucher" is only good until December 2021, extended now to May, 2022. They won't let me book a stay in September, 2022.

Because I have compassion for the hotel as a business that just went through a terrible time period, I am more than happy to meet them half way. Yes, if they gave me a discounted room, I would be happy to have donated the first money I paid them to their future business health, in turn for a new reservation at a discounted price. This is what feels best to me (yes, feels).

Update.

As mentioned above, I have asked a Parisian hotel to extend my voucher due to expire in September, 2021 to September, 2022. The original stay was to be in September, 2020 and is covered by ordinance 2020-315. They basically stopped returning my emails.
I have emailed them again today, this time requesting a refund.
We will see what happens.

I was just about ready to give up and I sent what was to be my last email to the hotel. The manager finally agreed to apply my voucher to a September, 2022 stay. It will cost me an additional 48 Euros for a 6 night stay. I am very pleased.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad you reached an agreement with the hotel, though I'm sorry it was so hard to get there!
