Hôtel Centre Reims?

Does anyone have any experience with the Hôtel Centre-Reims in Reims? We're booked on a RS Eastern France tour next spring, and plan to go to Reims a couple of days early. This hotel, which used to be called the Grand Hôtel du Nord, is recommended in Rick's books, and is way cheaper than the tour hotel, the Grand Hôtel Continental. They're both on the same square, so location isn't an issue.

We don't need elevators or air conditioning, but we do appreciate a good breakfast and a clean, preferably quiet room.

Thanks for your help.

I don't know anything about it, but looking at the hotel on Google Street View, you can see that it's RIGHT on top of a brasserie -- so if you reserve there, be sure to ask for a room in the back!

Not familiar with that hotel, but we took that tour several years ago. Across from the tour hotel (Grand Hôtel Continental) was a place named Le Grande Café (no connection with tour hotel) that had wonderful mussels. So good we ate there twice. The tour did not go to the Museum of the Surrender, but it's well worth a visit on you own. There is a "short cut" pedestrian tunnel under the train station that eliminates a lot of walking. It's also possible to get there using the local bus system. Using google maps street view will allow you to walk the route to either hotel before ever leaving home. Both are flat, easy, fairly short walks.

Thank you both. Kim, I was just thinking this morning that I hadn't seen any of your posts lately. The hotel website does mention that the rooms in back are quieter, but all the "Executive Rooms" face the square. Not that we were going to sign up for one of those.... although they are remarkably affordable.

TC, thank you for the tips! I'm bookmarking this topic. The museum sounds right up our alley. And I hadn't checked out the route from the train station yet, so thanks again.
