We are going on a RS tour of France in the Spring and we would like to book a room at the first hotel in Paris. The price on the hotel's website is expensive. The hotel for the last night in Paris is more reasonable. Has anyone booked the last hotel before the start of their tour?
We’ve never been on a tour that started and ended in the same city, but don’t see why you couldn’t book it the way you are suggesting. On several tours we’ve added extra days before the tour started and the tour hotel couldn’t accommodate us, so we’ve booked an alternate. The only thing I would question is the distance between the hotels and is transferring your luggage an issue? Would there be another hotel close to the first hotel in a price range you’d like? There are lots of forum members who are very familiar with Paris hotels.
I would look at hotels that are nearby the first hotel but less expensive. I've done this on a few tours and ended up staying across the street pre-tour in a very nice hotel and saving $100 night. In the morning, check out, leave your luggage at the desk, and head out to explore. In the afternoon, pick up your luggage, walk across the street and check in.
I was on my 9th RST this past February in Rome. I have always been able to book extra nights before (as well as after) the tour starts once I had the hotel list from RSE. My experience has been that the rate I am quoted is different (lower) than the posted rate on the accommodation's own website. And, I have been fortunate to be able to stay in the same room as assigned while on the tour as I value not having to relocate.
