Hotel at Gare du Nord shopping nearby

Is there a hotel located directly at Gare du Nord?
traveling by myself in Jan. I will be arriving at Gare du Nord from Brussels after dark. I can be directionally challenged, hoping for something right at the station 1 night only.

Next day I have a half a day to relax walk around and shop before catching my next train to Vire, France that afternoon. Love some suggestions for shopping nearby

Thank you!!!

I don't believe there is any hotel directly at/inside Gare du Nord in the way that there is a Renaissance directly at St Pancras in London, but there is a high density of hotels right next to the railway station (some literally across the street) and in the neighborhood.

I would read reviews carefully though, as hotels right next to major European railway stations tend to be a bit of a mixed bag. In these types of situations I usually choose midrange chains such as Ibis -- while they won't be as "charming" as an independent boutique hotel, you know there's a base level of comfort, amenities and service, especially since you're only there for one night.

I've never stayed that close to Gare du Nord so other than suggesting Ibis as a reliable chain I don't have a hotel recommendation.

When you get up the next morning you will need to get to Paris Montparnasse Vaugirard (a subsidiary station to the huge Montparnasse station) station which is across town. Do you have plans for how to get there? You don't have an option of getting a train to Vire from Gare du Nord.

Are you looking for shopping in Vire or around Gare du Nord? What would you like to find?

I thought I would just take a taxi over to Mont Vaug station.. My family is picking me up in Vire, I’ll be staying with them for a few days. I suppose I could arrive at Gare de Nord and taxi over in the evening. I know there’s a Novotel at the monparnasse station. I just don’t trust myself to navigate very well at night.

Solution: book the Novatel at Montparnasse and take a cab there from Gare du Nord. No need to “navigate” anything but the Walk to the taxi rank outside Gare du Nord.

And by all means, use the official taxi rank. There are shills around trying to steer you to their own "bargain" taxi. It won't be a bargain.

I agree with the suggestion to take a taxi from the official taxi rank to Montparnasse area and stay there.

I'm not sure where you are from and if you are used to big cities. I'm a small town/rural Idaho gal with few street smarts and the area around the Gare du Nord is a bit grittier than I would choose. I DID stay there back in the 1970's, lol, but I would not stay there today.

Thank you everyone! I agree the best thing is to Taxi Over to Montparnasse. I stayed at the Novotel last year and they can hold bags of needed.
Appreciate all the responses, helps me in making my decision.

We stayed in one of those hotels which was just out the door of Gare du Nord and across the street...I actually just took the luggage carrier out the door and over the street to our hotel (and returned it to the station of course). The hotel was fine, but the area was not very nice at all. Now that I've made several journeys to Paris I just take a taxi from Gare du Nord to my hotel which is usually in the Latin Quarter.

Hi,

There are several hotels once you exit this station. Across the street is the Mercure, it's where the big and bright seafood restaurant is located Parallel to Nord is Rue de Dunkerque. The Mercure is literally the closest hotel just opposite of the station.

There is also the Ibis, next to the Chinese restaurant , "Le Jumbo" at the end of block on Rue St Quentin, one street over to the left, where you see the big sign "New Hotel." "New Hotel" is directly in front of Nord.

If you are asking if a hotel is attached to Gare du Nord, the answer is no. There isn't one. If you want that, you'll find that at Gare de l'Est where the Kyriad is attached to the station.
