Greetings. Married couple, 65+, non-fussy, want to stay at CDG Thu 11 Aug (the night before an a.m. flight on United to SFO the next day). Should be non-tacky (i.e. better than Motel 6), but cheaper is better; soul-less is fine (this is merely a convenient place to sleep and get to the airport with minimal fuss, not a "real" part of our vacation); super-convenient transport to United terminal is desirable. Recommendations? Thanks!
There is an Ibis at the airport, a short walk from terminal. It's clean, modern, predictable – think IKEA design style. There's a coffee shop that's fine for a quick meal. Ibis is my preferred budget hotel chain in France.
I agree with Sherry. It is very handy- just a tiny room, but very clean.
There are also Hilton , Pullman and Novotel hotels all one on top of each other , all a very short walk to the CDGVAL shuttle to the terminals , BUT , check the prices as they are not consistent with the brand , Last fall the rate we got at the Hilton was only slightly more than the IBIS ( which is fine ) . This was early November 2015
Hi,
A "soul-less" hotel ...my compliments on your eloquence.
I stay at that sort of hotel at CDG the night before flying back to SFO on United too. I recommend the Campanille, on the cheap side, with a good restaurant, shuttle early in the morning, at dawn, to the airport, basic but much better than a Motel 6, comfortable for an end of the trip stay. Most likely, you won't find any North Americans there, based on my staying there a few times.
Thanks, folks Got a good rate at the Ibis (chose that over Campanile b/c of location right in the airport and more frequent shuttle). Much appreciate Fred's compliment re my eloquence, although I must admit that with a just-ended forty-year career as a government attorney, describing things as "soul-less" comes easy.
What I remember most about the Ibis at CDG is that the shower stall in our room was the biggest I had ever seen!
We liked the Ibis for our final night. It meets your criteria for location, affordability, and absence of soul. We had dinner there, which was OK though nothing special. We'd driven in from Normandy instead of coming from Paris (where would probably have had a better dinner).
Even though you already have a hotel, I would also suggest the Novotel at CDG. It may be a bit more expensive than the IBIS but I think the rooms are a little larger. The restaurant at the Novotel is also good for hotel restaurants.
Enjoy where ever you stay!
We've stayed at Ibis several times. It's basic, but works fine for one night, and it couldn't be more convenient. We've also stayed at Novotel, but they didn't offer free wifi (perhaps this has changed?) and Ibis does. We usually have dinner at Novotel - it's an easy walk from Ibis.
