Hotel Arok in Strasbourg - your opinion.

Hello,

Back in February I started planning our November/December 2025 trip to Strasbourg and Paris. We will only be in Strasbourg for 3 nights (Nov. 28 to Dec. 1); this is our first visit there. I discovered the Strasbourg Christmas market starts Nov. 27th. Honestly, I was stunned by how expensive the hotels become there at that time of year. Recommended hotels in desirable areas that were otherwise affordable were now off the charts in my opinion, plus fully refundable reservations always add a bit more.

Anyway, I got a decent price at the Hotel Arok which is right across from the train station. I'm aware areas around train stations can be a bit dicey but the hotel had decent reviews and didn't look so bad on google map street view so I booked it. I'd love to hear a review from anyone who actually stayed at the hotel or even just stayed in the train station area. Was staying in this area an unpleasant experience? Did you feel unsafe?

My partner is excited about visiting Strasbourg and I'd like him to enjoy the stay. So, I'm trying to decide if I should just bite the bullet and pay the more exorbitant costs (from mid 400s to 600 euros/night) to be closer to the preferred areas.

Thanks in advance for your opinion.

As I remember, the train station is about a 15 minute walk from town, and there is a security line as you cross the river into the old town.
My recommendation would be to pay the higher prices and stay in the old town. It's so nice to come back to the room midday, put your feet up, and warm up, or- dry out if raining. We saved money on food, as we ate at the markets, and the meals were about 12€.Either way, enjoy the magic. Do book asap, as lodging fills up quickly. Safe travels.

Pat,

Thank you so much for your reply and sharing your experience and opinion. It is greatly appreciated.

I definitely think you are correct; that it would be a better experience in general staying in the old town.

Pat,
Greatly appreciate the link to your trip report and very much look forward to reading it.
Strasbourg sounds wonderful. As I said, this will be our first visit and my partner is especially looking forward to it (of course, I am too).

We will be spending about 2 1/2 weeks in Paris afterwards. We love Paris and go as often as possible. Strasbourg and a few day trips from Paris will be our "something new".
