Any recommendations for a clean comfortable hostel near Paris Gard du Nord? I just need a quick one night stay. Thanks.
Our daughter stayed in Le Village Montmartre in 2024 and was pleased with her stay. It is one metro stop away from Gare du Nord or a 20 minute walk.
Thanks, I will check it out.
The hostel St Christopher's at Gare du Nord is actually between Nord and Est. It's located on Rue de Dunkerque. It's pretty popular as it always has lots of people there in the summer. I stay in a 2 star hotel in that very area too.
Between Nord and Est are several hotels, the area is fine, full of locals and tourists but you don't see Americans in any noticeable numbers.
Great idea, Fred. Thanks! I will check it out.
@ rhonda....You're welcome.
That area between Nord and Est has completely changed...for the better , should you be concerned about that. French women of all ages walk through there, alone or with others, day and night.
St Christopher's has a pretty diverse international crowd, Americans included, not just 20 somethings but those in their 30s and 40s or so. Absolutely no concerns re: safety or " urban blight." In such hostels communicating with others is practically all done in English, the lingua franca. The staff are well used to using English with their international guests. Th
The streets are cleaned up , washed down in the morning. I am in the area from the time I start going out in the morning until returning 12 hours later at night , usually by 9 to 10 PM.
Both Nord and Est have security personnel present, private as well as SNCF at all times, even French Army patrols, also at midnight, I've been there too and my hotels booked there this summer. There are 4 "go to" 2 star hotels I use between Nord and Est, all within walking distance of each other, depending on the price and availability .
Thanks! APPRECIATE THE INFORMATION!
Hi,
If you do decide to stay at St Christopher's , situated as part of the hostel is a burger restaurant. I wanted to check it out but it's not for the public but only guests of the hostel...so I was told.
Further down on rue de Dunkerque is the restaurant , "La Maison Blanche" on 21 rue de Dunkerque, opposite of Nord itself. I've eaten there several times, located right in the neighborhood where I stay, without having read any of the reviews, etc. first.
I don't use reviews especially those of Yelp and Trip Advisor to dictate my choice of an eating establishment. Some reviews are pretty critical if not downright hostile. My reaction to those: who cares, not interested and so what?
Patrons at this restaurants are international tourists and lots of French, business folks and visitors, a very diverse crowd. The wait staff do speak English along with the availability of the menu in English and 3-4 other languages. You see them dealing with foreign visitors, British, Asians, other Europeans. I manage with relying only on using French though, at times, only barely and taxing. Prices are decent.
Bottom line: You may want to check this place out to have a meal in an establishment offering a bit more luxury.
Thank, Fred
