Horseback in the Camargue

We are travelling in May with a group of 5 people, youth through active seniors, all avid outdoors people, birders and horseback riders. We are hoping to see some of the Camargue by horseback. Some members of the group really want to see flamingos, and some really want to gallop on the beach the (boy turning 19!). Is this too much to ask of one tour? Should we visit part of the area by car for a walk, and different are for a horseback ride?

There are a lot of companies who take out groups... Any recommendations for companies with guides that provide horseback tours for confident riders who are want go beyond nose to tail on a trail rides and learn about the environment, beautiful local horse breed and more?

Thanks in advance.

For Flamingos I went to Parc Ornithologique Pont de Gau. They were present in October during my visit several years ago. At that time I was told they didn’t all migrate and that there was a year-round population. I also saw them in ditches and rice fields on the way to the park and as we drove down to Saintes Marie de la Mere.

You can check here to see if they have anything of interest to you:

You can easily see flamingos by just visiting Aigues-Mortes or Le Grau du Roi. Flamingos are everywhere in the brackish lakes surrounding these locations. The are very shy birds and typically group away from the roadways.

You can also check with the FFE (Fédération Française d’Équitation ) but they typically have riding programs only for younger people. The website is only in French:

You might also check with the Offices de Tourisme for Stes Maries de la Mer, Aigues-Mortes, or Le Grau du Roi and ask about riding possibilities for adults:
