I will be in Paris for less than 10 hours and would like recommendations on hiring a driver for the day. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you

The Join Us in France podcast # 96 is about a guide service for people on layovers at the airport.

I think this is the service www.tripaside.com
Whether you hire this service or not, you'll see that they use a driver to pick up and deliver, but a lot of sites once within Paris are reached on foot. Paris is not really a city for driving.
Jan, Do you mean a driver (presumably with a car) in order to drive you around Paris for a day to see the sights?
This is not practical. A car can drive you around Paris; it would be a lot slower than the métro; but, he would have nowhere to stop. You cannot just park wherever you want in Paris, you cannot even stop near many of the sights. He would have to drop you (possibly some distance away) and immediately drive off and drive in circles, and wait for you to phone him to pick you up.
Also there are regulations for drivers, maximum hours per day (8?) and a stop and rest every few hours. So you need 2 drivers.
Where are you coming from and going to? If either is an airport, you need to allow time (1 hour+) to get out to the airport.
A more practical idea if you only have one day is to research Hop-On-Hop-Off buses, which allow you to go round the sights in turn, with a commentary and without the learning curve for the faster métro.
Because of traffic and parking considerations this is not a practical idea if you are wanting to see the sights of central Paris. The metro and comfortable walking shoes are your best friends here.
