hiring a driver from Charles de Gaulle airport to Rouen train astation

We arrive at CDG airport on August 17th at 2:40 pm from Canada and want to hire a driver to take us to Rouen train station where we will pick up our rented car. We may consider a train but are interested to know the cost of a driver and how to book ahead. I hve tried a site but no answer yet. We do not want to rent a car at the airport as we will be very tired. We have a hotel booked in Rouen. We will be driving to Giverny and other parts on Normandy and then The Loire Valley and the last 4 or 5 days in Paris. We will drop off our car rental before we are in Paris....any suggestions for where to drop it off? CDG?

Thank you...Sylvia and Pat

You could drop your car in Chartres after visiting the Loire Valley and get the train into Paris. Make sure to spend some time wanderng the streets and visiting the Cathedral.

Regarding a car from CDG to Rouen, it is a long way and will be expensive. I would catch the train from CDG to St Lazare (there is one change) and then onto Rouen. Alternatively catch a taxi to St Lazare and then just the single train to Rouen.

A very long time ago we were obliged because of a railway strike to go by taxi to Paris from Rouen. We paid 1000 francs which at the time was about 300 CDN dollars. No doubt MUCH more than that now. That will give you some kind of answer as to the cost.

Take a train to Rouen, for a fraction of the cost of hiring a driver.
France has a good and easy to use train system.

Thank you so much, mph, Norma and Kent. Your ideas are excellent and now we know hiring a driver from the airport to Rouen is not an option....we will take a train and the Chartres idea is very good as we would like to see the cathedral.
Such a quick response...thanks all!

Perhaps have your cake and eat it too?

You could land in Paris, if you land just before 3pm, you may not be out through the frosted glass doors until half past 4 and not off the airport until 5.

If it were me, I might think that that's enough traveling for one day, and hunker down at an airport or nearby Roissy hotel for the night.

Then up with the birdies in the morning and get the car and up anchor for Normandy or Giverny.

Giverny can be on the way, and getting there in the relatively early morning could be yummy, then onwards north.

Parking at Giverny is actually very easy, with 3 lots one above the other. And the flowers and the lake and the bridge and the house are a fabulous experience.

How about that?

Thank you so much, Nigel! An excellent suggestion. We were concerned with the fatigue we would feel from the long flight. I just booked the Redhome Roissy Hotel for only $99 Can. all incl. and free shuttle from airport. I have changed our hotel less one night in Rouen and we will go to Giverny as we planned anyway and you confirmned , after we check out of Roissy and get our car. Hurrah, that problem solved.
Now we will change our car rental from Rouen train station to the area of the Roissy at the CDG airport. We havce rented with Sixt car rental...is that a good idea?

Sixt are a large and reputable company. People sometimes have issues with them, but you can say that about EVERY car rental company!

Thank you. Yes, we have booked our car with Sixt to be picked up at the CDG airport after our first night at a hotel that was suggested to us. Our itinerary is excellent, we think, and we tweaked it with the guidance of this excellent forum!!

Thanks again
