Hiking Around Nice (Inland)

Hello!
We plan to be in the area for 10 days in July, We plan to stay in town, and would like to do some hiking inland in the hills. Seeking recommendations for such trails, parks, or areas where we can participate in hiking (and ideally some swimming)

Thank you!

I don't have any specific recommendations but am just here to say that you need to be prepared for HEAT and humidity. Hiking in those hills in July is usually done early morning - if there is a heat wave, which is a distinct possibility, it is not recommended. Bring abundant water and correct clothing. It's not easy hiking in that area.

We spent 6 months in Cassis. The hiking club suspended activities after May. As Anita said, early in the day and lots of water.

Do you mean the surrounding hills? There is a walk up Mont Boron that connects to a trail to the Batterie and up to Mont Alban. It can get hot. There is also a nice walk around Cap Ferrat, with less populated coves. There are also a number of beaches where you need to scramble down from the bus or train line. There is also a hike up to the Tete du Chien (you can depart from Monaco/Cap d'Ail or La Turbie) . You can also take a ferry to Ste Marguerite and go hiking and swimming there.

There are also hikes if you take a train or bus. For example, there is the Train des Merveilles that goes to the edge of the Mercantour National park. There are trails that depart from there and from Casterino (a shuttle bus away). This is at elevation and can actually be quite cold, even in August. A few years ago I was absolute frozen up there (with light rain), even though it was 80 and mostly clear back in Nice. Also further afield is the Massif de l"Esterel area (a car might be required for some trailheads).

Gooster, Thank you for this info. It seems very interesting and a break from the heat may be good! Is the Train des Merveilles a train that leaves from the City of Nice? How long does it take to get to the Mercantour National Park from the city? I will also look at the Massif de l'Esterel as we may be able to rent a car for a day or two.
