Hi! Does anyone know the best route from colmar to sarlat? Is bordeaux my closest option on tgv? Also Avignon to sarlat, same question. We are traveling in july. Also looking into early reservations versus a rail pass.
Thanks, Lynn
You would take Colmar to take the TGV in Strasbourg to Bordeaux transfer and then to Sarlat
Or no TGV service if Avigon to Nimes to Agen to Le Buison to Sarlat
You can reserve 3 months in advance.
Rail pass.. for that.. no.. just reserve tickets as far in advance as they are released for sale.
Use the DB website or app. This will tell you ALL of your route options. If the TGV looks to be the best itinerary, then use raileurope or the voyages-sncf app to buy. If an intercity train looks better for you (and will usually be less money--but longer) us the latter option.
But even though the DB (Deutsche-Bahn) website will not let you buy tickets for trains outside of Germany, it is by far the best place to start to see what all of your itinerary options are.
You'll want a car in the Dordogne, I think. if you think so too, then you might consider taking the train as far as Angouleme and picking your car up there to drive the rest of the way to Sarlat.
