Hidden Hotel

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has ever stayed at The Hidden Hotel in Paris. It's pretty highly rated on Trip Advisor and Oyster. Thinking of booking but not sure if the location is really ideal.

Thanks!

It's a bit away from the sights but with the Paris Metro (and buses) everywhere is pretty easy to get to. That being said, it would not be an ideal location for me. I prefer to be within walking distance (1km) of several sights and, if not, at least within a few minute walk of a metro stop. This hotel is located in the 17th, pretty far away from most usual sights, which in itself is not a definite deal breaker, but from what I can tell on the map it looks to be about a 15 min walk to either of the metro stations it is located between - so it would not work for me. This is just my personal opinion, you may find it a perfectly acceptable location - different strokes for different folks.

Hopefully you'll get some more opinions.

Thanks so much Nancy, your advice was very helpful. We thought that the hotel might be a little out of the way.
Thanks again!

It can't be too far.

Argentine is only five minutes or so away. It's on Metro 1 which runs straight down the Champs and on to within another five minutes of Notre Dame. Half of the tourist stuff is on that side of the river. The other half is just across one bridge or another.

I don't know squat about the hotel, but the make-up of the area sure wouldn't bother me.

It's not my preferred area to stay (my favorite is Ile St. Louis) and like Nancy, I prefer to walk out my hotel or apartment and be in the heart of Paris... But... this area is very, very nice, very upscale and the hotel looks really nice. Good rating on TA counts for a lot. I would not be unhappy staying there and Metro and buses are close by.

Hrumph!

What bothers me is smart-aleck wimmin who probably don't strut around in hiking boots and are scairt to walk the three miles or so to some little island where you have to jump up and down like a jack-in-box just so's they can see the back side of the cathedral.

Now, if you go up to Saint Ouen and sleep in the shadow of the peripherique with us regular folk - - well, that's where the charm and good scenery is!

@Ed - I think we covered this in a post some time ago. What might be a 5 min walk for you may not be a 5 min walk for some others of us (me for instance). I don't know the age or physical fitness of the OP but, for me, those two metro stations are too far to walk in 5 min and I made it clear that it was just my opinion. Although I do agree that the Argentine stop is a good one being on the line 1, it would still not be the ideal area for me.

Haha Ed! You and I have very different ideas of charm... but I still love you!

Point taken, Nancy.

Maybe we should start giving distances in linear measure instead of time. Just like 'modest price range' means nothing.

I have stayed in hotels and apartments all over Paris. Two years ago I spent 3 months living in an apartment in Neuilly -- which is west of the 16th arr. beyond the periphique. It was a lovely, upscale neighborhood, that I enjoyed a lot. I had a 10-minute walk to the metro, and about a 30 minute ride into the center of Paris. I did this many many times, and though on paper it seems reasonable, in reality it took quite a bit of time and energy. I love the Paris metro, but you can't get anywhere in Paris in a few minutes (from outlying arrondissments) -- the reality is different, Taking the metro involves a lot of walking, stair climbing, and often change of trains involved. At the end of the day, coming home on the metro -- climbing the steps out of the station and walking back home was very tiring. (particularly after walking all over Paris) So factor in this time and effort. I did it and survived, but for future trips I will be more centrally located.

In the interest of giving linear measurements, Hidden Hotel is about 500 meters from Argentine metro stop (Line 1) and 550 from Etoile, where you have 3 metro lines )1, 2 and 6) and the RER.

so...if a meter is 3.0884...than 500m is 1,640.42 ft.

and a football field is 300 ft. than you have to walk roughly 5.5 football fields
to get to the metro stop??

wait should we turn this into a soccer...
