We are considering picking up our car outside of Paris due to the train strike. We were going to take the train to Caen/Normandy but it is on a strike day.
Does anyone know which location would be good to avoid driving through Paris. Orly Airport looks like it could work?

Where do I find out the strike days? We are looking at renting a car as well because of the strikes.

I´m not sure why you would want to pickup a rental at ORY, or CDG. They´re both on the wrong side of Paris if you want to go to Normandy. A13 to Normandy leaves Paris at Porte d´Auteuil on the southwest side of the city. You´ll want to find a rental office probably in the 15th arrondissement.
Maybe even easier would be an office near Porte Maillot where you can take ave Charles de Gaulle and pickup A14 by continuing straight ahead. Avoiding airport or train station pickups has the added advantage of saving the 40€ location surcharge fee which is payed at the end of the rental and not included in the quote.
