Hello I have reserved a Renault Grand Scenic minivan from Hertz at Marseille train station. I realize this may not be the actual car we get, just wondering if anyone has rented a minivan in France, and what you ended up getting. There are 6 of us so need the room, also don't want anything too huge for driving around the small villages. Thanks
Most of the minivans are much narrower than what we'd drive. They're made for the roads. I'm pretty sure if you reserve a minivan, you will get something that looks like that but may be another manufacturer.
I've found the biggest issue is luggage. Six people will probably fit fine - if you don't have very much luggage. If everyone packs heavy, it's going to be hard to find any European vehicle to fit the group into. I leased a Grand Scenic II, more like a station wagon. It seated seven in three rows but was just about right for my family with three kids (one carryon each). If we had been bigger or carried more bags, we would have needed something larger.
Whatever they give you at the counter, remember if it doesn't work for your group, go back to the agent and ask what else they have. It's not a big deal to change on the spot if the vehicle they assign you doesn't work.
