Hello, I need help understanding train routing with SNCF. We want to travel from Beaune to Antibes on 6/4/2022. There is work being done at Lyon Part Dieu. The message says: "Due to works from June 4 to 5, no train will stop at Lyon Part Dieu station. The TGV INOUI will take another route and will serve Lyon Perrache or Lyon St Exupéry. We invite you to renew your search with one of these stations." But the 11:02 (arriving 18:19) says it goes to Part Dieu and then connects from Lyon Perrache to Antibes. I have tried other stations ( Macon, Dijon etc.) and some also mention going to Part Dieu. I am very confused! Can anyone help me figure this out? Do we go to Part Dieu then taxi etc. to Perrache? Or is the train being routed there? What am I not getting?
I appreciate your question and am following.
I too was/am befuddled about June 5 Lyon part Dieu closure. I have booked my train to iPart Dieu on June 5 because Ouigo let me. However, my earlier SNCF queries indicated “no trains (will) stop there June 5. So, I am prepared to roll with it if they put me off at another (Lyon) station.
Linda, I thought the same re: being bookable, but then what does the message mean?
Hello,
I looked on the SNCF website, I saw that they warn that no train will stop at Lyon Part Dieu station that day.
If so, you have to find a train to Lyon Perrache.
The problem is that the first train that goes from Beaune to Lyon Perrache that day arrives at 2:46 p.m., which is too late to take the TGV to Antibes that you originally wanted to take.
The next TGV leaves Lyon Perrache at 6:05 p.m. and arrives in Antibes at 10:18 p.m.
So what you can do (provided that the SNCF information is correct):
Take the TER N°17815 which leaves Beaune at 3:02 p.m. He arrives at 4:45 p.m. in Lyon Perrache and then takes the TGV N°2239 which leaves Lyon Perrache at 6:05 p.m. and arrives at 10:18 p.m. in Antibes
If a specialist finds another solution, he is welcome!
Thanks folks! I don't know why it changed, but now the 11:01 goes to Perrache from Beaune. We then need to get to Lyon Part Dieu for the connection to Antibes. And we are actually going to Villefranche sur mer. We have 1hr. 19 min to do it, which I think is doable with a cab. This last minute result is the product of poor planning (who, me?). So many of our choice lodgings are booked by now that making major changes was not working. Now we will do some major backtracking... but we are thrilled to have it work out!
The two Lyon stations aren't far apart, but I was shocked at how long it took the tram to travel between them. Walking would have been about as fast, or so it seemed to me. I'd definitely recommend springing for a taxi if you have a train connection to deal with. In addition, Part Dieu is an extremely busy station, at least at some times of the day. It's the only European rail station where I remember thinking about the maneuvering through the crowds; it can take a bit more time than expected just to move around. On the plus side, there are escalators up to the tracks; you don't have to manhandle your luggage down a flight of stairs and then back up another flight of stairs.
acraven, I read another post of yours that mentioned the 'long' tram time, as well as the busyness of Part Dieu. That info was helpful! While I may be a spring chicken (in my dreams), my husband moves a bit slower these days and being in a rush does not help. Better to know what to plan for. Thanks!
Regarding Lyon Part Dieu closure June 4-5, I received this response from OUIGO:
“Notre train ne sera pas impacté par la fermeture de la gare de Lyon Part Dieu.
En effet les travaux de Lyon Part-Dieu sont du samedi 04/06 à 13h30 au dimanche 05/06 à 13h30 où la gare de Lyon Part-Dieu”.
So, trains scheduled to arrive at Part Dieu June 5 after 1330 should not be impacted.
