Help with Paris stay

We will be in Paris for 5 nights in April I booked an apartment on VRBO/Homeaway. I emailed the owner about the
registration number and she replied never heard of that which makes me nervous. I emailed her back about
registering and haven't heard anything since, so I need suggestions for somewhere to stay hotel or bnb ? and
hope in 1st or 7th arr

I would have just continued with this apartment having booked it; there is no risk to you except the apartment being taken off the market at the last minute and at that point you could rent a hotel if need be; April is not that busy a time that there would be nothing available. Are you going to lose a deposit by pulling out?

Oddly enough the same thiing is happening to me but my reservation is in Oct. I would lose the deposit. I decided to book a hotel that I can cancel (I think I have 3 days before the reservation begins). About a week before I plan to confirm with the apartment, if they confirm, I cancel the hotel, if they don’t respond I keep the hotel.

I wouldn’t rent that apt. If an apt owner/mgr says they’ve never heard of a registration #, they are not being honest and I wouldn’t trust them about anything.
I can’t recommend a specific apt, we’ve rented 3 x in Paris... the first two were great but no longer available and the third one was really awful so we left and went to a hotel. I know there are great apts in Paris but our bad experience put us off renting. And that bad apt is now listed on VRBO.
I can recommend a good apt rental agency, VIP (vip.com). It’s an American co, easy to communicate with, takes credit cards and mail you the key. There are lots of good hotels, happy to share the list I’ve stayed at if interested. It’s also helpful to go to Booking.com or Hotels.com, put in filters, read the reviews (legit, only people who have actually stayed there can write a review), then book directly w the hotel.
You’ll have to decide which is better for you, hotel or apt. I personally like hotels better.

Rick Steves also has a list of hotel recs in his Paris guide, many in the 7th.

I would look for an AirBnB with the 13-digit registration number.
Or a hotel if you wish in the 7th arrondissement or the 1st arrondissement.

But you don't have to stay in any particular place - there are not boundaries around the arrondissements.
There are Metro stations along 500 metres, so no need to look further for a hotel.
