We will be driving between Avignon and San Sebastian and would like a smaller town with something interesting to see, close to the middle of the trip, to stay overnight any suggestions? Thanks!

Castelnaudary is a pretty town located on the Canal du Midi. You could stop at Carcassone on the way there. Lourdes isn't far off the autoroute on the way to San Sebastián the next day. viamichelin.com is good for getting drive times, distances and different routes. Always allow more time than the site suggests.
