Hi ... based on my earlier post to help me choose when to go to France, I have decided on the last 2 weeks of May - give or take. So now I want to focus on itinerary. We are 4 adults 60 plus (I will be 60 this year-woohoo). We like to relax, hike, enjoy the scenery, maybe ride a bike. Not big shoppers or night life people. Really don't want to be shoulder to shoulder with other people. I also want to experience the culture/history/architecture you cannot experience in the US. So far my plan is to arrive in Paris (from the US) and stay 4 nights. Then take the train to Annecy and stay 4 nights. From there my plan was to rent a car in Annecy and drive to the Route Napoleon - which I think begins around Grenoble - down to the Riviera area. Stopping to see the Verdon gorge along the way. I could plan to stay 1 night or probably 2 along the way. Then ending the trip somewhere around Nice, staying in that area for 3 or 4 nights.
Someone suggested I do this in reverse, but logistically this direction works better. I'm still a waffling on the Route Napoleon drive and ending on the Riviera ... vs. maybe getting from Annecy (somehow) to somewhere around Avignon, staying there for the last several nights, with a car so we can go see nearby sights like Pont duGard, Nimes, etc. What do you all think?
Thanks!
