Help! Vrbo host cancelled! Need Paris triple hotel recommendations!

I had the perfect apartment reserved with a deposit since August of last year on Vrbo and they just refunded me and cancelled my reservation. My husband, myself and our teenage daughter will be in Paris June 19 through the 26. All the other apartments I had my eye on have been reserved. Can anyone recommend a hotel that has triple rooms and reasonable prices?

Sorry to hear about the cancellation of your apartment. I don’t have any to suggest. It would be helpful to others to provide appropriate suggestions if you could provide a budget amount per night in €.

Best of luck finding a replacement and enjoy your trip.

We had a triple at Hotel Relais Bosquet a few years ago, for ourselves and our then-16 year old daughter. It's in a great location. I'm not sure if it meets your definition of "reasonable prices." We very much enjoyed our stay. Small hotel with a friendly and helpful staff, nice breakfast buffet.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I know how disappointed you must be, when it was so perfect for you and you've had it booked, with a deposit paid, for 8 months. We once had a rental home booked for Prague that was cancelled via emailed notice on the evening prior to our arrival. The reason given was "burst water pipe." We got the email while in Berlin in a hotel that had poor wi-fi connectivity. Our plan was to be on an early morning train to Prague the next day. It was the week after Easter, high tourist season, and thus it was going to be a challenge to find a new hotel. We accepted the owner's offer to put us in another one of her apartments. Later I learned through reading reviews that this owner has used the "burst water pipe" excuse with other booked guests. It appeared to me that she would purposely overbook the nicest of her apartments, the one that was getting all the interest, then move people on a last minute basis into the apartments that never were booked.

I would search booking.com. Fastest way to find available hotel rooms. That being said, for 3 people an airbnb might be a better value.

Ugh - that's so frustrating!!
I recommend using Expedia to see your options (but book directly with the hotel).
You can filter to select 3 people, kitchen, laundry, price range, etc.
I find the map view really handy. There are many apartment options for your date range.
Citadines Bastille Marais Paris, and Aparthotel Adagio Paris Nation both look decent and are in the $300 / night range.
I hope you find something nice and have a great trip - have a croissant for me!

Not sure of availability for your dates but try the Apartments du Louvre as an option. They have full apartments but with some hotel amenities.

Why? Why would you be cancelled? You are the guest. Never heard of this with a hotel. Airbnb has never appealed to me for various reasons. Now one more.

Hotel Muguet. It is in the 7th near Rue Cler, Rodin Museum, two metro stops and the Effiel Tower. It is not fancy, but comfortable, clean and reasonably priced. I have stayed there with my kids and we enjoyed our stay especially when we ran into Jamie Lee Curtis in the lobby picking up her aunt.

Another vote for using Booking.com. Use the filters, it will be the easiest and fastest way to find what’s available. Reviews can only be left by people that actually did stay there, they can’t be faked like many other sites.

You have a little time and so I'd be looking for another apartment even if it is not where you want to be or as nice as you hoped. It is really nice to have a kitchen for a trip this long -- one of the great pleasures of Paris is the morning bread run and even if you eat dinner out, having the ability to have breakfast and snacks in and make up a picnic lunch is just nice.

Sorry you got hosed by the faux 'broken water pipe' scam. Had a friend once who got that excuse for a long booked apartment being yanked as yours was. He walked by the place when he was in town and there were people happily partying on the terrace he had booked and lost. Perhaps friends or family of the owner or maybe people who were willing to pay extra. It sucks.

Keep looking on AirBNB and Bookings and also consider the aparthotels. Some have one bedroom apts where the third person can sleep in the living room.

Hope you find something good and have a great trip.

Thanks so much for all the advice. I can't believe how many people this happens to. There really should be a way to alert potential renters to owners who do this. I've found an apartment on Place de Vosges through airbnb. It's close to where I want to be, but not as nice as the previous one. It's also about $800 more for the week. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, as I'm worried this will happen again.

We stayed at Le Prince Regent in December and I recommend it. Great location near restaurants and Odeon metro. Apartment type rooms that have a kitchenette and it's run like a hotel so there are always front desk staff available.

Why? Why would you be cancelled? You are the guest.

One possible reason that an apartment is cancelled with the deposit being returned is the unit's being determined to be illegal. In these cases, the apartment owner is faced with a potential 50,000€ fine and the unit is permanently removed from any listing. The government has been very aggressive in enforcing the rental laws and, even now, there are far fewer rental units available online than there were just a year or two ago.

Apartment rentals from Adagio or Citadine remain legal, and there are numerous hotels offering rooms for 3 people. The important item to clarify is your definition of reasonable prices in euros.

I'm worried this will happen again.

Consider the following as a loose guide for finding legal apartments:

  1. Those which are offered by the owner occupant (while he is away)

  2. Commercial apartments - tend to be very expensive, as licensing an apartment as commercial is very costly

  3. Ground floor apartments - which are generally not subject to short term rental laws.
