Help!! Torn between Hotels I arrive in Paris next Thursday

I guys I arrive in Paris on June 30, 2016 but, I have been thinking about cancelling my current reservation with Hotel des Grandes Ecoles. I do love the charm of this hotel but, I believe it does not have AC? Can someone confirm this for me. Also a few of the most recent reviews have been a little negative.

I am looking to switch to the Hotel Excelsior Latin. This hotel has AC and is still in the 5th and reviews have been very positive from what I have researched on TripAdvisor, etc...

Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

If AC is important to you and if there is availability at Hotel Excelsior, and you can cancel your reservation without penalty, then I'd make the change. No need to over think it - just be sure to make new reservation before cancelling the first one.

The worst night I ever spent in a hotel was at the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles in one of their upstairs rooms in June. The temperature measured 100F in the afternoon in the room and it wasn't all that cool at night even with a fan. There is no air circulation. The place has a lovely garden but without AC unless you have a ground floor room I would not consider staying there in late June. It was truly awful. We had stayed there before in May and enjoyed it but never again after that experience. This was several years ago but unless they have installed AC since there is none and they haven't configured the upstairs for circulation. There was a skylight in the hall that if it had been opened for a few hours in the evening would have allowed those rooms to cool down. I don't know if that is impossible or just not done, but a 'whole house fan' in that ceiling would have made the rooms bearable on a hot day as Paris does tend to cool down in the evening.

There are hotels all over Paris cheaper than this hotel with AC.

Carolyn thanks for the advice, I will be traveling with my Aunt so I am more worried about her than me :) Just want her to be comfortable! Hotel Excelsior had rooms! Yahoo! Have you ever stayed at either hotel?

Hotel de Grandes Ecoles does not have AC so if that is important to you, then make a reservation at the Hotel Excelsior Latin and cancel at the Grandes Ecoles. I have been to both and the Excelsior Latin feels a bit newer and is a great choice. I am surprised that the Excelsior Latin still has availability for June 30th. I'd act now before that changes.

Carmen,

I had considered staying at Hotel des Grandes Ecoles, but when I found out that it does not have A/C, I looked for another hotel in the same area.
My daughter & I enjoyed our recent stay at Hotel Diana (clean, comfortable beds & nice bathroom with bath tub) which has A/C, an elevator, it's close to Metro & bus stops, and it's centrally located. It's a family owned hotel & the owner, Therese Cheval, is very nice & helpful, as well as her staff.
We paid €126/night & thought it was a great price for the location. Request a quiet room that doesn't face the street.

Enjoy your trip!

Edit: Here is their website: http://hotel-diana-paris.com/en
I booked directly with the hotel.
