help needed for our last 10 days in France

Hi !
We (2 adults and 2 kids of 8 and 12)will be in france form july 10 to august 11. The first 20 days of our trip are set.

We have a hard time finding what to choose for the last stretch. We will be in dordogne (not too far from Sarlat) until july 30. We have thought of doing Carcassonne for one night, Provence for 5, Alps for 4 and end with Lyon (our flight back home is from Lyon).

For the Alps we have thought about Annecy as a base but it seem it can be very crowdy and hot in august. So now we are opne minded about 10 nights between Dordogne and Lyon.

Auvergne ? Languedoc ?Pyrénées ? Provence ? Luberon ? Alps ? Gouffre Verdon ? Les Écrins

So many choices for the time we have !

I can think of several options.

You could do Provence for 5 nights, Alps for 4 and end in Lyon. The only drawback there is how warm Provence will be that time of year. This choice might be the most natural bridge from Dordogne to Lyon.

You could also expand your Dordogne travel to include Languedoc (around Carcassonne), Lot Valley, Altantic Coast and end in Bordeaux (or Toulouse) before going back to Lyon.

Another option is to use the ten days for a Burgundy/Alsace loop. Burgundy is pretty convenient to Lyon.

A fourth option could be to visit Brittany and (some) Normandy. Brittany is relatively lightly touristed and August is the best time of year for weather.

Is there one that's better than another? Right now Brittany and Languedoc are my favorite areas of France - as much for lighter tourism as for natural beauty and friendlier locals.

Hi !

Thanks a lot for those answers !

There,s many things that attarcts us in the Provence region: Pont du gard, Uzes, Arles, Nimes, Avignon, Luberon park....We have found a nice appartment in Pernes les Fontaines. Maybe we can do 5-6 nights there and then fgo for 3 nights in the Vercor or in les Écrins and keep our last 2 nights for Lyon.

We will also stay one night in Carcassonne between Dordogne and Provence. We know is not much but its only a stop for us.

What do you think ?

I would go to Provence in the summer. We were there this past July visiting our daughter who lives there, and while it was hot, it was bearable. We divide our time between staying at our daughter's house with our grandchildren and sightseeing. So it is doable in the heat. While the weather is obviously cooler in the spring and autumn, I would still go in the summer if that was the only time I could visit. Look for hotels that have pools.

I suggest staying in St. Remy. It's a good location for day trips to Avignon, the Luberon villages, Pont du Gard, etc.

If you have the time, I recommend visiting Eygalieres, or Ansouis, or St. Saturnin les Apt for less crowded, less touristy places.

Just noticed that you found an apartment you like, so you can disregard my comment about St. Remy if you are happy with the apartment's location. Does it have a pool? That would be nice to have to cool off on a hot day, but not a necessity.
