All right, I blew it. I forgot to get our tickets for the Eiffel Tower ahead of time. We will be in France in two weeks and all the days are sold out for the time we are there. Rick mentions purchasing a 2nd floor access ticket and then upgrading once we're there, any more information on how to upgrade? Rick also suggests trying the website again a week before for last minute open spots, has anyone had any luck with this? Is there anything else I can try to avoid lines?
Yes, you can do that. Check out these recent threads (the first one I asked a similar question to you) for more details.

All you need are second floor tickets; you can buy tickets for the third floor once on the second. If you can't get them ahead, I would not pay scalpers. You can walk up and the line is shorter for that or wait in line for tickets.
Try a "behind the scenes" tour. I used Get Your Guide twice with good results. Check their website, there are several options for tickets.
Kchow,
Check this website (recommended by hotel staff in Paris), they have a river cruise & Eiffel Tower tour for €29pp:

Hope this helps...
Edit: Try this link for more information, you may be able to buy tickets through the Paris tourist office: http://www.secretsofparis.com/heathers-secret-blog/how-to-skip-the-lines-at-the-eiffel-tower.html
For what it's worth...we are in Paris now and went to the Eiffel Tower with no reservations on Friday evening. Thought we would be joined by a crowd - no one! Well, practically no one. Walked up to second and third and then took elevator to top. No lines anywhere. Not sure why. No, France was not playing football at the time.
