My family just did this itinerary. We stayed night in Giverny. In the morning, visited Monet Garden (1.25 hrs), drove 1 hr to Rouen for sightseeing and lunch, and then drove 2.5 hrs to Bayeux. The next day, we saw American Cementry and Visitor Center, drove road along Omaha Beach, visited Omaha Beach Museum, Point Du Hoc and the Longues-sur-mont battery. Stayed another night at Bayeux. The next day we visited St. Mére Eglise and paratrooper museum with quick look at Utah beach before driving 2.75 hrs to Mont St-Michel. You could see the Abbey that night or in the morning. We waited til morning and left about noon for Loire Valley. It was 3.5 hr drive to Amboise. The next day we saw two Châteaux before driving 1.3hrs to Chartres. Stayed the night. Next day saw the cathedral and stain glass museum, left rental car and took train into Paris. There is an Avis office at train station (or at least we left the car on the 2nd level of parking garage. Office was closed. Gave keys to guy selling train tickets). I hope this helps.

Hi Kelly,

Thank you very much for your reply. I find it is very helpful, and would like to confirm, and ask some further questions as below:

  1. It seems like you spend your 7 nights: 1 nite at Giverny, 2 nites at Bayeux, 1 nite at Mt St Michel, 2 nites at Amboise, and 1 nite at Chartres.

  2. Did you rent and pick up your car at CDG, and returned it at Chartres without any extra drop-off charges?

  3. One suggestion for me to return the car at Versailles, and take the RER train + metro to Paris. I will do this if there is no extra charge.

Based on your inputs, I may revise my plan to spend more days in Amsterdam, and Berlin.

Thanks again for your input.

A few suggestions ...
If this is your first visit then 2 nights is not enough for either Berlin or Amsterdam.
Consider Thalys train Amsterdam to Lille then pick up your hire car for France.
Find a location to return your car before heading back into Paris
Berlin (3)
Amsterdam (3)
Bayeux (2)
Mont St Michel (2)
Amboise (2)
Paris (3)
