Heat Wave headed to Western Europe. It is predicted to be 101 degrees in Paris by Wednesday, June 26. Be aware.
Yikes! I was unhappy with my upcoming business trip to rural Brittany next week, but now I see it's a great call. Good luck to all of our heat-unaccustomed visitors.
Wow - we have a French friend I first met in Nice visiting us here in Colorado. Our place in the mountains in Grand County might just get snow tomorrow, on the first day of summer! She’s hoping it does, and either way, it’ll be cooler here than it would be if she’d stayed home in France! Appreciate the tip, Kateja!

Thanks James. Great graphics.
I am currently in western France and the weather has been much cooler, wetter and windier than the same time last year. Typical- as soon as I head for home, we get some decent weather!
Central Europe not much different.
Excellent illustration of why after the canicule of 2003, I decided to spend summers in Florida with AC and a swimming pool. Heatwaves like this in Europe are brutal and obviously dangerous. With this hitting during the period of longest daylight hours, there will be little night cooling.
Good luck to all of you coping with this.
James, thank you for the map link.
All the more reasons pack the shorts!
I would also hope that people traveling to Europe look at the weather forecast before jumping on a plane, but maybe not?
I am so depressed just looking at the projected temperatures for Paris for next week.
Balso, maybe you need an assistant for your Brittany business??!!
Wonderful weather animation! Thanks for posting. Wish we had similar weather forecast presentations in the States. Unfortunately this one makes me very grateful we did not do our usual June trip to Paris this year.
Well, the "do I need a/c?" and "are shorts OK?" questions are now answered
I will be in Italy / Rome and Greece next week - what are your clothing suggestions for the daytime and evening?
nukesafe: the (excellent) link that James posted is not limited to France/Europe; it has weather for the entire world. You can either search directly for your location in the search box at the top left or just drag the map to your location. It's rather mesmerizing to just travel around the whole world seeing how the weather changes!
This far out, the thing to remember is "but then again, maybe not". Tomorrow and Sunday are now forecast to be 5degrees C cooler than forecast on tuesday.
We are now in Provence after 6 days in Dordogne and Aveyron. Unbelievably hot! Scorching in fact in direct sun till 10 pm. Dreading upcoming week of higher heat
Head to the northwest. It looks as if it will be considerably milder there. It was hot yesterday in La Rochelle, but really not to an unpleasant degree, and I wasn't cooling off at a beach. The temperature is heading upward here, too, but I'll be traveling to Quimper on Tuesday. (Please let the train be air conditioned.)
This is an example of the limitations of average monthly temperatures. I think late May and June have been cooler than average in western France. I have not had much sun. Now the temperature is going to spike for awhile. By the time it's over, the average for June may not have moved at all.
We were in Lisbon a few years ago in September. It was 104 degrees. One never knows. This may be wishful thinking but I hope it cools down a bit for our trip in a couple months.
