Hats for men in France.

I'm bald and wear hats outside. I like fedoras. I'm going to France in October. Are fedoras a good choice?

I bet it will make you look quite 'continental.' Much better than a baseball cap.

As many baseball caps on locals here in Budapest as in my home town of San Antonio. Same sports teams too.

In the winter I prefer a SIlver Beaver, in the summer a Carson. Both fit in very well in Europe.

My husband took his fedora to Costa Rica in December 2023 which could be packed because it's crushable. It was quite warm in CR and the fedora was perfect for his bald pate in the strong sun. He took his Stetson to Europe in December, 2024. He wore it in Rome, Sicily and Paris. In Paris we went to a shop in Passage de l’Ancre that sells knobs, etc., and he bought one just for his Stetson. Both hats sparked some delightful conversations in CR and Europe. Enjoy!

In France you'll see the occasional fellow wearing a fedora.

They're rare but not absent.

More common is the casquette plate, or what some call an Irish flat cap.

The benefit of a casquette plate is that it already is flat (plate) and takes up very little room in one's luggage. And it suffers little or not at all from being stuffed into baggage.

Flat casquette is what my French husband wears, as did his father and grandfather. He has light cotton ones for summer and wool ones for winter.

I wear a flat cap when it's not raining, a fedora when it is. I hate umbrellas. In OCT wear the fedora.
