Has Anyone Stayed at these Hotels?

We are about to pull the proverbial trigger on our France trip and buy tickets/make reservations, so I thought I would stop by here to quickly ask if anyone has stayed at these hotels. All look good on-line and some are even recommended by Rick Steves, but any real world experiences would be appreciated. We are six in total: a family of four (kids are 12 and 10 at time of the trip) and my parents, so we need family rooms. My parents have said they will book a triple and take one of the boys if need be. Any other suggestions also appreciated. Thanks!

Sarlat-la-Caneda: Hotel de Compostelle. Looks nice and has a pool. How easy is it to walk to the center of Sarlat?

Loire: L'Auberge de Launay
Hotel le Blason Amboise
Le Huis Clos
Big question for these is how easy is parking. We're only staying one night; would it be better to just book the Novotel outside Amboise?

Normandy: Hotel i'deal le Mountbatten

Paris: Hotel Bonaparte
Hotel le petit Chomel
Hotel d les Jardins du Luxembourg
Hotel de la Tour Eiffel

Are you specifically looking for a hotel, or would you book an apartment-hotel? For a family group, we always prefer an apartment so we can have a common hang out space and a refrigerator, coffee machine, etc.
Take a look at these:

We have stayed at both of these and recommend them. Particularly Le Beau Marais was in an excellent location. Le Prince Regent is in the 6th, short walk to the Odeon metro.

To be honest I hadn't looked at apartments because I've heard horror stories about listings being pulled last minute as they were in violation of Paris' rules. Are apartment-hotels more, for lack of a better word, legal than VRBOs and AirBnBs? Thank you for the suggestions, I'm looking at them now. I'd been mainly looking around Luxembourg Gardens and hadn't considered the Marais.

We stayed at le petit Chomel last spring. They notified us last minute of construction that they had expected to be completed by our arrival; it wasn't but assured us it wouldn't impact us; and it impacted us horribly. (Too much to write about.) Do I harbor resentment at the passive aggressive owner of the hotel as a result of what we were put through? Perhaps. Under regular circumstances is it a lovely hotel? Yes. We had the nicest room in the hotel; a generous room with a king bed for 2 of us. Pretty french doors opening to outside during a very warm spring weekend. They have a family room that accommodates 4; with adjoining rooms. The breakfast room is lovely, cozy and delicious.

RS and many on the forum rave about them. I consider our experience extreme and not the norm. Their sister property two doors down is Hotel Signature, which is also popular; though I've heard lower floors can feel the metro underground.

There is an elementary school across the narrow street which may impact morning/afternoons, but we were there during their spring break so it wasn't a problem in any way for us. Metro is a short walk away. Love the neighborhood, but it felt more quiet residential though in reality it's near many shops/restaurants.

In Amboise, I have stayed a few times over the years at the Blason (often because we needed a three-person room). It's cheap and cheerful, i.e. not fancy.

I like to be able to walk into town (which is one reason I found it a good option).

It's probably 18 years or more since I have needed to park there, so I probably don't have useful information on that front.

For Sarlat, yes, it should be an easy walk into the center of town (it's 500 m). We've walked from our hotel in the center of Sarlat to a restaurant that's near your proposed hotel, Le Bistro d'Octroi, and it's an easy walk. The restaurant is good, too!

For Amboise, without checking your referenced hotels specifically and the parking situations, I would say that staying in town would be better, because then you can walk around town, even if it's only for one night.

In Paris, we like staying in the St. Germain area, closer to the Seine. Close to public transportation and easy to walk to many places from there. Because I don't know your price point, I won't reference any specific hotels. Check out hotels on the north side of Boulevard St. Germain.

We stayed at the L’Auberge de Launay but it was many years ago…at least 10+ and I am 99% sure it has changed management since our stay. So..grain of salt…it was quite nice. It suited our needs perfectly as it is located literally just off the road and while quiet made for easy in and out driving as we toured the region by car for several days coming and going often. Parking was ample, no problem at all. Our room as I recall was in an more modern addition than might be seen in the photos which showcase an older section. No old world charm but totally comfortable again for our needs Back then they offered breakfast and dinner; many people came to the restaurant each evening who weren’t guests. Not sure they still offer dinner…you’re pretty much nowhere if they don’t as I recall. The grounds were attractive and we often had drinks in the terrace/garden. When we stayed a charming young couple who had studied hotel operations in some posh US locations were working to establish their hotel and seemed to have invested a lot of time and care but I’m rather sure they have moved on. It was a half hour straight line drive from the St Pierre des Corps station to the A de L. Our trip was concentrated on gardens and chateaux; we don’t need nor really care for posh, expensive lodgings. Hope this helps. Safe travels.

Allison - We always stay in apartments (or apart-hotels) unless it's just my husband and me. It's more economical and we like having the space. I book through booking.com (on very rare occasions I've booked via AirBnB and it's been fine), I only book places that have at least a 9+ rating on booking, I read all the reviews and I don't rent apartments that don't have a history of rentals with positive reviews. I will typically search booking or airbnb and then google to see if I can find a website to book direct - that's how I found both the places I recommended to you. We've never had an issue beyond minor things that you might encounter regardless of whether it's a hotel or apartment.

Thanks for all the replies! Here's a quick update and another question.

We were able to book a lot of places with Chase Points - yay! We booked Hotel de Compostelle in Sarlat, Hotel Gabriel for one night at Mont Saint Michel, and Les Villas d'Arromanches in Arromanches-les-Bains. We are no longer going to the Loire.

Still trying to find a hotel in Paris! Celeste, thank you for the apartment suggestions. Unfortunately, those were booked. We've decided we would rather stay in a hotel; I like having a front desk in case troubles arise. So, I have two more places to add to the mix and wanted to see if any have stayed there.
- Hotel le Tourville in the 7th. Surprisingly affordable for five nights! Does not include breakfast but we can make that work.

- Les Jardins du Marais. Looks really nice, but technically in the 11th, so not sure it's still officially in the Marais.

Basically, I'm trying to figure out the best place for us to stay. Any opinions about Marais vs 7th would be very welcome!! I have looked at St. Germain and Latin Quarter, but am coming up empty for availability and affordability (would really like not to go over $600/night). Thanks again!
