Handicap Seating?? Fireworks and Fountain - Versallies

Hello travelers!

I am taking my 3 teens to France this summer and we would like to see the fireworks/fountain show as well as the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles.

Because my oldest teen has limited mobility (she walks but with difficulty) - we want to keep the visit simple and a bit shorter.

I have been looking at booking the serenade (to reduce time standing in line) and then thought we would wander the gardens and see some of the fountains. Can you tell me:

Are there benches to sit in the gardens?

Is there a cafe/restaurant etc from which we could sit down and see the fireworks?

If none of those apply - can we bring a small folding stool for her?

Is there any tour that might make this easier?

-Thank you for your suggestions - Rose

Though it's been almost 8 years since we've been to Versailles, when we were there during the summer, the crowds inside were nearly suffocating. We had to leave to get out into the fresh air and to the gardens. I highly suggest looking into wheelchair access/rental for inside. With limited mobility, I think it would be so difficult to manage. We found it almost impossible to manage with full mobility. Unfortunately, I don't recall whether there were benches in the gardens.

I hope you are able to find good solutions for your family.

The Versailles website has quite a lot of information on access for disabled visitors. Different issues and disabilities are on different pages, and not particularly easy to find. Use the search box at the top of the page, and put in key words - such as mobility, for example.

My wife is disabled and that is how I find things for her.

by the way, the term "handicap" is very rarely used on this side of the water. The term used here is often "disabled", and provisions are often called "access".

That's how the English version of the Versailles website refers to them.

there are a few benches down the center of the gardens but if there is a fireworks display there is no way your teen would be able to get a seat. I would bring a folding stool. There is not a 'fountain show' -- that just means the fountains are running -- usually for 90 minutes or so in the morning and a couple of hours in the afternoon. Most fountains are in little copses screened off -- so you have to enter the copse to see the fountains. You can rent a motorized cart for the gardens but again the demand is going to far outstrip the supply. Given a mobility issue you might be able to reserve one, but you would need to contact the site to see if that is possible. In order to get her some grace, it would be useful if she had a cane or other way of signaling that she needs extra consideration.

My dad uses one of those canes that opens to a perch. You do need go balance though. I think it would , as others have said, be helpful for your daughter to use that or a cane as it will identify her as being challenged. My dad was routinely motioned to the head of lines etc. You should take advantage of any access she can get. A folding stool would be great.BTW the Louve ND Mseo DOrsay have wheelchairs to borrow. Very helpful
