Haircuts in France ... esp Paris

I'm an old guy, and I don't have a lot of hair, but what I do have needs to be cut every once and a while, and this spring I'll be in France long enough to need a haircut.

So here are a couple of questions I have:

1) are there people in France like barbers in the US who give simple haircuts for those of us who don't need or want "styling". If so, what do I look for to find such people?

2) If not, I assume I'll be looking for a coiffeur, and how much should I expect to pay for a simple trim of not very much hair?

3) Do I tip?

I'll probably be in Paris when I need the haircut.

Thanks in advance.

Prices are posted in the window for men, women, children. Yes, barber shops exist (barbier) but coiffeurs cut men's hair as well. Yes, you can get a simple cut. My husband just pops into a place wherever we are in France, sometimes if it's busy he'll set a time to come back later. He always gets a scissors cut, whether here or there and leaves a small tip, but it's not necessary. I don't remember prices but we always think it's too much considering the number if follicles he has to trim.

I suspect you lodging host/manager could provide an answer

I have seen men’s haircut prices from 18€ to 39€. This depends upon where in Paris you will be. In the outer arrondissements, you can probably find barbers well under 18€ for a simple cut. Prices are not determined upon how much hair you have or may not have.

Tipping is not required but you might round up to the nearest 5€. For an 18€ haircut, leave a 20€ bill. I used to go to a lady barber near rue de Sevrès who charged 15€. I always left 20€ explaining that I was not tipping her because she should be changing 20€ in the first place. How does someone live in Paris, or anywhere, have your own shop, and give 15€ haircuts?

I'm female, so the price I pay is higher. I learned after my first experience that if you are staying in a somewhat upscale hotel (which unfortunately I was on that rare occasion), the hotel desk staff will send you to a costly hair salon. Since then I have just stopped in at any old place I was passing and paid half as much. (No, I'm not picky about haircuts; why do you ask?)
