I know Nice has hundreds of salons and most all will do a fabulous job, but I'm wondering if anyone on here has one they really liked. The first day of our European vacation my wife wants to get a haircut, just a simple cut, no more. Any suggestions? I looked on Yelp and there are a few there, but was wondering if anyone on this forum had a suggestion. Thanks!

When I need a haircut/color in a city I don't know well I ask the most stylish girl I can find who works in my hotel for her recommendation...works every time! Have done this in Paris, London, Santiago de Compostella, and once in a little town in Germany.

I'd also suggest asking the staff at your hotel for a recommendation, as I've done that in the past and it's worked well. On one occasion on a two month trip, I needed a haircut in a town in Switzerland. As it turned out there was a place right next to the hotel but the two ladies in the shop didn't speak English. The desk clerk at the hotel kindly dropped over and translated to German for me, and the problem was solved. The ladies did a fantastic job with the haircut!

Just be aware that hotel desk staff will probably suggest a place in a price range thought appropriate for customers of that particular hotel. If you are staying a class or two above your usual hotel choice because you copped a great deal, you may find yourself in a ritzier-than-expected salon. That's how I ended up with a 50-euro haircut four years ago in Bolzano. Not doing that again. Hair grows back. I now keep my eyes open as I wander the back streets of one of my smaller destinations and look for places advertising cuts in the 20- to 25-euro range. Haven't had a disaster yet.
