Three of us will be traveling to Paris next Spring, but one side trip we want to do is take the train to Colmar. I am not having much luck. Is there someone out there wh can give me some advice?
Not having much luck with what? The train schedule? - http://www.sncf.com/fr/rechercher-gare
You don't need a guided walking tour for Colmar. Check out the town website for all you may be interested in: http://www.colmar.fr
I loved Colmar and Alsace in general when we were there in 2015. We stayed in Strasbourg. Colmar is a 2 1/2 hour train ride from Paris. Hope you're planning on spending at least one night! We were very happy with the services of this company:
Agree with the recommendation of Ophorus if you're interested in a tour of wineries. We did a full day tasting tour with them last Monday and had a great day, without worrying about driving.
I also agree that you don't need a walking tour of Colmar, but if you still think you do, did you check with the Tourist Info office in Colmar?
The RS France Guide Book has (or had) a self guided tour that really hits all high point. He may also have something downloadable but I'm not sure. The Tourist Info Office in Colmar should also have maps and brochures that lay out walking tours. If you want a real person type guided tour the TI can probably make a recommendation. We loved Colmar and would suggest an overnight stay. St. Martin hotel is very centrally located.
If you want a tour from the tourism office, check well in advance. I am presently in Colmar. When I checked the TI website on Sunday the tour calendar showed tours on Monday and Tuesday. When I called today (Monday) to book the walking tour, the representative said they only offer tours on Saturday. Rather disappointing and annoying to find out today that there is no tour.
I ran into several places in France this year where the tourist office's English-language walking tours only happened once a week, typically on the weekend. And that was in May-July.
